    Hard Drive swap

So I have two computers: one is old, one is new~ The old one is pretty slow with XP on it, so could I just simply put the HDD of the old computer in the new computer and it would boot up the same, just it would run faster than it would on the old? Or would there be hardware issues or something?

Is this a good computer build?

Looks good, but if you want to put an i7 in there instead, you will have to get a different motherboard and DDR3 RAM as well. I would venture to recommend the AMD Phenom II X4 processors instead of the Core 2 Quad though.

AMD Phenom II x4 920 vs AMD Phenom II x4 940

well the 940 is already more powerful, but if you're interested in overclocking, to get the unlocked multiplier you'll need the 940 black edition.

    Q6600 vs E8400 ??

you're not really going to notice much of a difference if you're only gaming, so i would go with the 8400 to spend less money, but quad core would do well in other tasks besides gaming.

    AMD 790GX or 790FX?

if you're getting a video card w/ then go with the fx, otherwise go with the gx. they're very similar besides that the fx has no onboard video.

Would it help, or be stupid to...

you could do a dual boot as aforementioned, but vista is fine. If you get everything working on it you won't need to go to XP

    Dual monitor setup

I'm trying to set up dual monitors. I recently received a new video card, and so I have put that in, so now I am using the video card to power my current monitor insetead of the onboard I was using before. The card is an ATI 4350 and the onboard is Nvidia 6150 SE. Has the ATI card completely...

    No onboard graphics?

It would be for a PC that wouldn't need anything better than onboard for graphics. This PC has Nvidia 6150SE onboard and I'm OK with it. I mean I realize it could be better, but it does all the basic things, and I can play some pretty good games- not on teh best detail but hey they don't chug...

What would the use be if...

you had multiple graphics cards plugged in but not in SLi? Would they just be used for different monitors, and the graphics performance on each would affect it's respective monitor?

    No onboard graphics?

I'm looking at this MoBo right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130136 It looks nice and all, w/ the 790fx chipset and all, but I look at the specs and it says no on-board graphics. I was under the impression that all modern motherboards nowadays have on-board...

trying to find correct socket type

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819105018 I'm currently trying to find the correct socket for the above processor. It says that it's socket AM2, but I've looked, and there are no server mobos that are labeled w/ socket am2. Is the socket called somethign else instead?

    Backup comp

Well, it's not perfect, but, your choices for PSU and Case are pretty good. The processor and Mobo I would not use, however. I have made a build somewhat similar to this before, just with an AMD 5000+ and a $50 Biostar mobo instead. And you do realize that you don't need a top notch gfx card for...

Check out this build I created

Hmm... Interesting thoughts. However, I think this would work pretty good for an average home pc user. Remember, my aim was not to create a super fast gaming pc- no, it was to produce a good solid computer for someone and their family to do all their basic work on- speedily yet steadily. And...
