nothing to do with the topic, but i thought your system would get a higer score in 3DMark03, mine gets 11K.

I know its weird, i just did it today and I thought "wait, this can't be right":( . I still average like 40FPS in Quake 4 on high gfx. 4xAA and the resolution at 1152x864.... its strange.

i know you were talking about buying a new graphics card, id say before you do that overclock your cpu and gpu and see if that helps you.

I OC'ed my CPU to 1.85GHz (from 1.8 GHz) but I'm not sure how much it can handle since I'm still running stock cooling so I dont know how far to push it. I am not much of an overclocker so I dont want to screw anything up badly but I'll look into OC'ing my gfx. card. I think I will wait until summer before I buy a new one, and maybe if I get enough $$$ by then I'll get a new processor and more RAM too.

1.8 to 1.85 isnt even noticable, lol
If you dont raise the voltage all you need to worry about is temps, you should get it at least a few hundred Mhz higher, possible to a 3200+.

My rig on stock settings got 9134 in 3DMark03, when i oc'd to the specs in my sig i got 11355.

And how much did you OC?? Isnt the 3200+ stock at like 2.0 or 2.1?? And do you think it should be safe for me to do it with stock cooling?

CPU is 2.0Ghz stock, oc'd to 2.22Ghz
GPU is 400/490, oc'd to 550/535

Im sure it will be fine, just watch the temps and dont mess with the voltages.

Okay I'll push it a bit more and report back :)

BTW- My CPU right now is idling at 21C, so I think it will be fine.

How come with the ATI Tool when I OC it and I try to save it to a profile the profile only says the stock frequencies?

I see... I'll do that. I'm at 1.9GHz right now with CPU, I'll go to 2.0GHz in a sec, but thats a far as Im going.

sounds good, and when you oc your gpu it takes a bit of trial and error to get the right memory and core speeds. What i do is raise it about 10Mhz at a time and then once i get artifacts, i lower it down 1-2Mhz a time until i dont get artifacts for several minutes.

When your done run 3DMark03 and tell us your new score :)

Holy god damn shit I OC'ed the vid card too much and my whole screen went into weird colors and shapes. I literally had a heart attack I tried to put it back but i couldnt see sh*t on my screen so I was getting worried and finally unplugged the card and put it back. Now it works. NEVER AGAIN WILL I OC MY VIDEO CARD! HOLY CRAP I THOUGHT I KILLED IT

LOL, which is why geoff said ot oc a little bit at a time.

I did, it was going fine then all the sudden it happened. I hope to god I didnt damage it :(
if you had GPU recover enabled in ATI all you need to do is restart yout computer. And i said to overclock it slowrly and scan for artifacts so this wouldnt happen, lol

Thats exactly what I did, I have no idea what happened I just went up another 10 and then it happened. I did have VPU recover enabled but it did nothing.

Okay, did a system resort just to be safe, tried out Quake 4 to make sure there is no damage, and thankfully it runs the same. Whew... The CPU OC went fine though, up to 2GHz now!

thats good to hear, and have you ran 3dmark to see a difference?

And just to make you feel better, i've gotten those messed up color things many times, along with black screens and so forth. I just make sure to have VPU Recover on from the ATI Catalyst control center so it restores the defualts if theres a problem.
