biggest noob mistakes

my biggest mistake was when i modded my athlon XP 2200+ (hardware modified), i was putting it in and out of the socket every 10 minutes cuz i was closing and opening the bridges on the CPU with a microscope, last time i had to put it in i didnt put the heatsink correctly on it and there was a short circuit and my Athlon burned :o *sigh* :(

You know the little arm on a socket 478 motherboard. Well one time i forgot to lift it up to put the processor in and i just snapped the heatsink ontop of it lol. Luckly it didn't do anything to the processor it just broke the motherboard. So i returned it said it was defective and got a new one lol.

EDIT: Didn't see this, I feel your pain. lol

Installing my CPU without putting the CPU clip down on the socket.. lol. was wondering why the heatsink was tough to get on... =P. Luckily, the cpu was not crushed :P.

theres actually another things i did. A year or so ago, i was building a PC (P4 3Ghz), and somehow i managed to put the cpu the wrong way, i clamped down the heatsink, which then made the motherboard a 479-Pin ;). I turned it on, a second later it was off and i smelled electrical smoke, but luckily the processor was ok, just a $40 motherboard that was ruined.

I dunno if this exactly qualifies, but I bought one of the zalman 120mm cpu coolers to put in a build without considering its size inside the case, and well, it didn't fit cause the fins were too big. SO I took some scissors and trimmed the fans so that the heatsink would sit on the processor, thus far haven't heard anything about it screwing up so I think I'm in the clear

HAHA, that is a nice mod man. lol

What about that kid that photoshoped a 7800 GTX where he cut the PCI-e connector and fit it into an AGP slot and then said it didn't work and he didn't know why. Now thats noob.

now this is not something that I didnt do but it was my friend. he had this old PII gateway that got extremely dusty inside and was causing it to overheat. when vacuuming out the fan on the back of the psu the red switch got flipped to 220V. after pressing the power button many times he noticed smoke coming out of his case. he did not feel like testing to see if the cpu was still good so thats when he got his 1GHz duron and became a AMD fan.

I just thought of another mistake but it was more of a prank. one day I came to class early and nobody was there so I found a roll of electrical tape in my book bag and put it over the eye on the laser mouse. LOL it was so funny watching my teacher trying different surfaces and even hitting the mouse until she got another teacher to help her. it took the other moron like 2 seconds to find out that there was tape on the bottom.

We used to do that all the time in school too. Also we would hide a piece of chalk in the eraser so when the teacher would erase the board it would just write all over it agian. lol

Yeah, my dumbest was running CPU without the heatsink/fan...Big mistake, fried CPU, and possibly some other components, which I need help with, here. Please Help!

C'mon dell isnt THAT bad ;)
No there not that bad if you get a high end one, the cheap ones are really CHEAP....

Anyway, i remebered another noobish thing, nothing big though, just forgetting to plug the molex into the hard drive, and wondering why it didnt show up in BIOS or boot.....hmmm
