I recently built my first computer with the following specs.

It seems to be running just fine. It powers on, the LED's work on the case just fine. Everything is in place, I believe, but I don't get anything from when I plug my monitor into the video card. So the computer seems to run, but I can't see anything?

Here's the deal with what I have plugged in.

I have the motherboard screwed in with the spacers between it and the case, and the 24bit cord plugged into it, from the power supply.

I have the CPU dropped into the socket, locked down. I put the heating adhesive on it and then the fan locked ontop of it. The fan is plugged into the "CPUFAN" slot

I have an 8pin cord plugged into the power supply, and then the other side plugged into the extender, and then plugged into the CPU power connector.

I have one 2gb stick plugged into one black slot, and the other 2gb stick is not in the computer yet.

I have a 6 pin cord that goes from the power supply up to a cord that fits in my disk drive, and then it works its way back to the hard drive.

In both the disk drive and the hard drive, I have 2 sata cords plugged into the motherboard.

I have a 6 pin from the power supply plugged into my case fan, which is plugged into SYSFAN1.

I have my video cards plugged in. It is the Radeon HD 5770 plugged into the PCI Express slot. The fan works. It has a 6 pin slot on it, which I have plugged into the PCI-Express 8pin to 6pin that I got with my power supply.

I plug the power supply into the wall, turn it on. All the fans run. My CPU Cooler Master, the case fan and my video card fan. LED's work, but no video, and no beep when I start my computer.

I am beginning to think something might be short circuited or DOA. Or am straight up missing something.. or it has to be something really small that I don't have right. Any ideas?

Take the motherboard out of the case and set it on top of some cardboard and see if it boots up.

Yeah try that. You may be completely oblivious to an accidental short in the board while placing it in the case. Taking it out and putting it back in fixes that problem.

So you guys think that it is a motherboard problem? I will try and take it out and redo it tonight, but you believe that a motherboard replacement will fix it?

Everything that I did looks correct though right? Nothing looks like it is missing.

Any ideas on what else it could be so I could keep it in mind?

Its all fine. Just re-seat the mobo. I have to do it like every time I build a new rig. But if you want to be sure do like he said above and put it on some cardboard or an anti static bag(like the motherboard should have come in) and try to start it.

Well hopefully that is all that it wrong then. haha its been driving me insane trying to figure this out. I'll write back tonight about whether it works or not. About to head to class now.

Thanks for your guys input. Really appreciate it.

Your power supply may not be powerful enough to turn everything on. You say you have 2 video cards. Are they both the 5770? If thats the case your power supply isn't powerful enough to run both cards. You should have gotten a corsair 650 watt or higher. The supply you have now only has 18amps on each separate 12v rail. I don't think thats enough to power your rig.
Hopefully someone will confirm this.

Try hooking everything up outside the case to make sure nothing is shorting out from motherboard to case.

This power supply should power everything.

oh I'm sorry. I thought I editted that out.

I actually only have one 5770. The other video card idk what it is. My uncle put it in just to see if my video card was bad. I figured that wasn't the problem so I took his card out.

So I only have one video card now... which is the Radeon 5770. I would think that the PSU would power what I have up fine, right?

:EDIT:
So I will try hooking it up outside of the case tonight and reseating the motherboard. Any more input on what you guys might catch would be appreciated.

Okay, I tried building it outside the case, and tried reseating it. Still no video from my monitors and no beep when I boot the system up. It is the same exact outcome as before, just everything outside of the case.

So is this the motherboards problem? Should I go ahead and get a new motherboard, and then try it again... or do you guys have other ideas.

:D

I know it's a dumb question but do you have the vga cable going into the video card and not the onboard video? also do you have a cable coming from the psu to the video card?

Edit: went ahead and did it for you:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131406 - 89.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131651 - 99.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131603 - 79.99

though if you're willing to spend 10 more dollars I would go with this:

I have the PCI-Express cable that came with my PSU going from an 8pin in the PSU to a 6pin in my video card.

Also, I don't really have an onboard video I don't believe? I have a SERIAL/com port on my motherboard. That's all I see that resembles a place I can put video. So yes, I am plugging into my video card.

If you can try another power supply maybe. But that board does have alot of DOA ratings.

Yeah. I heard that board has a lot of DOA, and even another person said the same thing.

You don't think 500w is large enough to power my setup?

I really want to try another motherboard, but don't know if going with another one of these boards is worth it.

Any suggestion on whether there is a more sufficient and less DOA motherboard out there that works with this build, and around the same price?

Now that i've looked at the feedback for that mobo, I do see alot of dead boards. I would rma it for a different board like an asus or gigabyte.

Do you have an suggestions for a different board that is compatible with what I have otherwise? I'm not exactly sure how to tell what is compatible and what isn't. Someone put together my build for me, I just paid for it. lol

Or maybe explain how to tell what is and what isn't compatible.

Otherwise I'll have to try and figure it out.

Sorry, if I wasn't on my blackberry my reply would be more intuitive. But to make it simple. Go to newegg.com and search for motherboards. Along the left side is a host of options that allow you to filter the results based on cpu, ram, expansion slots, etc. Just use the same specifications as on your current board (they should be on the box).

^ That board has no MOFSET cooling and a 4-pin CPU connector...no good if he unlocks a core that needs more voltage.

Any of these would be great, though some of them don't have USB3 or SATA3. (you can add that later if you need it)

The 890GX boards(and the 790X one) will allow you to add a second 5770 later on, if that's worth the extra dough to you.

The board is a 10 phase power setup and has plenty mosfets to not worry about heating and a single 4 pin cpu connector can pull 150W. It would unlock and overclock a 740 just fine.

Your first board in your links is in the same price range. which would be a good choice too.

But the other are 20 to 50 bucks more. Anybody could pick links that are 20 to 50 bucks more and get a better board. Plus the GX is just a 4+1 phase set up. The FX is 50 bucks more and the X has a older 750 southbridge.

Just trying to stay in his price range with a updated chipset.

So the card that Strangehold posted with the 4pin CPU power connector would work just fine? Or it is better to try and get an 8pin one?
