Title says it all. Looking to build a new gaming PC for around 1400 bucks and decided to come here for help. This will be my first time building a computer from scratch but i think im competent enough to get it done. The only problem is i need help with what parts to get as i have no clue. Already have a monitor/keyboard/mouse so that's not included in the 1400. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Would you be needing an Operating system, and also what is the resolution of your monitor and what games would you be playing on it and also whats your location?

this is what i'd do, and i left the case for you to pick at the bottom, those are the best brands, but for the cooler-masters i know the haf's are good, their other cases vary in quality, so tell us the one you pick, personally i love the haf x, haf 932, corsair 600 cases (there are several, but will be on a seperate link as those are full towers and they are mids, but they are awsome, full just is more spacious so generally a little better)

the water cooler is optional, if you plan to overclock it will go far but otherwise you can keep the original cooler, and also the mobo and psu are great for sli, but if you never plan to do that then you can drop it down to the cx600 or tx650 psu's, which will offer plenty of power.

and where do you live so we know what site to use, if the us this is the site to use, otherwise i will look on there too.

My bad i was out for a bit. Im in Texas and i play/played WoW, Borderlands, gonna be playing Skyrim. Pretty much a bunch of games that run off of steam. For w/e reason my current computer hates steam and i lag like crazy. Also i just bought Space Marines and i am getting a lot of problems. I see the term overclock all the time and i dont know what it means so i wont be doing any of that lol (Noob here). Out of curiosity, what is overclocking and what is sli?

sli means to run 2 or 3 gfx cards linked together. it enables the use of 3 or more monitors instead of 2 like this 1 can do, but it doesn't mean you get 2x or 3x the performance of the 1 gpu, i'm not sure exactly but i know 2 cards isn't 2 times the performance.

overclocking i making your cpu ang gpu, run at faster speeds than normal, like with that cooler you can take this 3.3ghz cpu and turn it into a 4.5ghz cpu, and on the stock cooler you can prob get it close to a 3.6-7ghz cpu.

for that case above, it's one i linked, idk why you're saying it seems legit, cuz it is, but i'd still say use the haf x, just a beast, or a corsair 600 white edition, black is good too but i love the way the white looks, also the lian li's are supposedly the highest quality cases out there, and i do have to say they look nice and are reviewed amaizingly, but i'm personally not too fand of the looks, but that's just me.

Alright thanks for clearing that up. I highly doubt i will be doing any of that and i only use two monitors once in awhile never 3.

probably gonna go with the windows 7 and haf 912 case that you posted in another thread along with the items you posted earlier. Does anyone see anything wrong with this build and is there anything else i will need for my pc?

Thanks. The white Corsair looks sick but i think im gonna go with the HAF 932 for the sake of the combo (doesn't look too bad either). I am up to $1,298, any more thoughts/suggestions/opinions? Will i need additional fans or anything?

For cpu cooling I'd get something like one of these.

The Intel stock cooler will do, but that's about it, just do. And besides, you'd have a nice lookin' machine, but a puny little cooler.

You'll want to use that SSD as a boot drive.

An HD6850 is not much of a card for gaming, I would get something better, like the GTX 560Ti or the HD6950

GPU: is this video card that epic for the price? can i get similar quality for a much lower price. Dont mind paying that much, just making sure.

Ram: Whats the difference between good Ram and bad Ram?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231445
PSU: Let me know if i could do much better than this. I've had PSU issues in the past and i really dont want to go through them again.

Case: Not really sure about this case. The HAF 932 started looking a bit expensive for my taste and someone mentioned that this was a quality case. Ive read about some cable problems and was wondering what a good alternative would be. Something easy enough for a first time builder would be good lol

Disk Drive: Does this really matter all that much?

CPU Cooler: Not sure about this one either

Again, if you see anything that you think should or if it looks like im doin it wrong please let me know. All help is greatly appreciated. Hoping to get these ordered in a day or two.
