High CPU temps

Well, I screwed up

While reinstalling the cooler, I broke off one of the pins that pop through the mobo.

What somewhat cheap cooler should I buy?

i use q tips/cotton buds soaked with alcohol works best for me, much more precise. plus its also very easy to clean away any residue with a dry one and you can get a box for next to nothing.

a hyper 212 will work very well with your rig, much higher overclocks and lower temps vs the intel cooler.

I just built two PCs using the i7-4790k, CM Silencio 352 (mATX case) and 212 Evo. It will be more than adequate :)
At 5v, it can keep the CPU (not overclocked, just Sync Cores turbo boost) below 80C with Aida64 and RealBench.
Highly recommended :)

I ended up buying the Hyper 212 Plus instead of the Evo, the Evo was on backorder

People said its just a few degrees different, so I decided it wouldn't matter

It won't matter much now unless you plan to do an extreme OC. I would have gone with the Evo for an enthusiast level build but at entry level it doesn't matter too much.

I've got a 212+, not the EVO, and it's great. I think there's a pretty marginal difference between the two. Both are miles better than the stock fan on this chip.

For a G3258 it won't matter.

If you had something like an 8 core FX at high overclocks it'd make a larger difference since they produce a LOT more heat (mine gets thermal runaway over something like 1.4v). For most sane builds and clock speeds you'll have no problem.

What was the highest clock you got on your 8350 using a 212?

Im just wondering what we think we're are achieving. He's currently getting about a delta T of 10oC, thats pretty good. I don't see the need for any further cooling...

Im getting low 60s on idle, in Celsius, fairly sure those temps aren't good.

I plan to hopefully get at least 4.0 with this cooler, but what do you think I can hit?

Darren, what fans do you use, I'm think Corsair SP120s for mine

I built a Pentium G3258 rig this year and runs at 32 degrees Celsius. 60 degrees Celsius is way too hot for an idle for most rigs considering even people using i7s try to remain 40 degrees Celsius or cooler. Check the following and respond: How much dust is the system? How many vents and fans does the system have? Is the computer on carpet or crammed into a shelf? Do you have it on a shelf? How close is to a wall?

We have already solved the problem, my question is how much of an OC can I get with the Hyper 212 Plus
