How many people here fix computers for a living?

The big question is do you use "Labour" as a measure of time you spent doing the repair work to charge your customer?

It seems to be a common thing along with the TV & VCR industry I used to be in, I have always asked why? Labour to me seems to be that the repairer has just used physical effort in to doing that repair work. Knowledge is something we know that perhaps the customer does not know, something we can repair in ten minutes or so, were the customer might of spent a few hours on it if they decided to fix it, and made things worse.

Could we be a bit more professional and use something a bit more advance than "Labour" after all the job is a bit more complicated than digging holes in the ground.

I work on computer on the side(when people call me) As for prices, I don't have anything set... If they pay me, great! If not, fine.

Also, as many of you might of read, I'm not hired and work at Baptist Hospital. I've not actually started there, but orientation is Monday, I start Tuesday :)

Yep me too. I'm actually working on a computer for a friend as I type this (I'm on my laptop right now) and she has WAY WAY too many viruses. She hasn't turned on this computer since LAST AUGUST. It is so slow too.

Congrats on the job! I've actually just been hired at Bank of America and my orientation was on Friday, but my training begins on Monday. I hope your orientation isn't as bad as mine! I was SO bored for 8 hours. But they paid me so I'm not complaining...as much :)

Me too...

I just offer my knowledge for free... I build PC's for my friends at prices I know they won't get elsewhere, at say PC World. I don't make money on it though, unless they are generous, and add it onto the cheque.

I also help anyone who has problems on the software side of things too. I reinstall XP for friends, insert fans, Sound Blaster cards, sort them out with software which they may need, etc...

I should charge really, but I don't like to do that to friends, 'cause, well, they're my friends :P

I repair and do reformats on the side also. I don't charge much. Sometimes people give me steaks or beer. Fine by me.

havent quiet picked up how 2 install Windows, but im sure i will this summer. thats the only thing i dont know how 2 do.

WOW, they have hands and a screwdriver too, some tihngs just ocntinue to amaze me

I don't fix computer's for a living, i don't even have a job, but i am like the first person to call for people who know me if their computer breaks, i normally fix it for them, then i'll occasionally get money for it, but i don't go round and say £xx per hour, i fix them as much as a hobby and fun than anything
