Is AMD comparable to Intel?

Hmm... sacrifice a few frames to save some money? Tough decision, but I think I will take the better one, those few frames can make a huge difference sometimes.

it is a couple % difference im performance at top end at most. IF you see frame difference, which you probably won't under normal use, atleast not until the 260 starts to show its age, we are talking maybe 5 at most which is negligable.

Really? I thought it would be the same as the 750i which does 16x/16x. Edit- Looks like the 750i does 16x/8x when in SLI....I think, hard to find info on it.

Yeah I meant the board itself supporting ddr3 meaning the slots as you said. I just phrased that poorly my bad.

+1, 8x/8x will be no big deal with 260's. Save the $$ on the board and get the 750a and put it toward the other 260.
 
Then I put my faith in all y'all and will get the 750a MB. If the frame rate difference only is 5 in the end, I hope it's a good choice.
 
Second choice, screw Nvidia. Get a Gigabyte 790X/FX board, run the GTX 260 for awhile till you can sell it and get a 5850. The confusion starts.:D
 
LOL, no way...I don't disagree with the 790x/fx choice but I would say use the gtx260 until the 360 comes out...which will smoke a 5850 :p
 
Disagree if you want. But there is no way I (myself) would by a Nvidia chipset for AMD, SLI or not. The 900 series are just more or less renamed 700 series chips. As far as I know AMD is cutting Nvidia out too on chipsets when Bulldozer is released. Nvidia chipsets are a dying/Deadend breed.
 
You didn't read what I wrote I guess. I said I DON'T disagree about the motherboard, but I said forget the ATI 5850 and wait for the gtx360.
 
Yes it does depend on the price, but I think it will outperform the 5850 easily looking at the specs.
 
I'm guessing it will be priced in between the 5850 and the 5870, or actually it's more like hoping it will be LOL around $350.
 
na na na, I have promised myself that the next card I buy (except for if I do SLI with the 260) is at the least 5970.

I expect to hafve a computer able to run anything on a 30 inch monitor at very high settings with no issues.

And yes, i intend to spend a little more on my next build :D
 
I'm been kinda gettin burned out on cards. Had a GTS 250/ 4870/ GTX 260 and a 5770 in it the last month:P. Think I migh try a couple of 5750 in C/F.
 
Well supposedly the gtx380 will spank a 5970 as well.

I had a 4870 X2, and had a good bit of micro stutter. Since then, I'm leary of anything with 2 GPUs on 1 card.

Yeah in the past 3 months I've had CF'd 4870's, a 4870 X2, gts250, 8800gt, 9600gt's SLI, gtx260c216, and a gtx285.

Had a 4870 1gb in my previous build. Loved it very much. Stupid as I am, I gave away my computer that I had spent $1000 on after only 3 months

Paid $300 only for GPU!
