After deciding that I should stop upgrading my computer piece by piece, i've decided to buy everything and start from scratch. I am going to sell all of my parts except for the Core 2 Duo, and this is what I came up with:

SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write Black E-IDE/ATAPI Model SH-S182D - OEM - $30

LIAN LI PC-61 USB Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail - $90

VANTEC NXP-205-BK Black Fan Controller Panel - Retail - $20

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3250620AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM - $75

MSI NX8800GTS-T2D640E GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail -$455

Creative SOUND BLASTER X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card - Retail - $133

Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 ATX12V 650W Power Supply with Three 12V Rails - Retail - $125

Razer Diamondback Salamander 1600 dpi Gaming Mouse - Full Retail Multi Language - Retail - $35

Patriot Signature 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model PSD22G667KH - Retail - $208

eVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail - $240

Total after mail-in rebates$1,440

So basically I would have the following system:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
eVGA nForce 680i SLI Motherboard
Patriot Signature 2x 1GB DDR2-800
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS
nVidia 8800GTS 640MB
Seagate 250GB SATA 3.0Gb/s
Antec TruePower 650W

I want this computer to be able to take in upgrades, without the need to drastically change other parts. The memory runs at 1.8V stock, so it should work with that mobo, the mobo is also Core 2 Quad ready, and has 3x PCI-E x16 slots (2x for SLI).

What do you guys think? Any input is appreciated.

Ok, I switched out the hard drive for an identical 320GB one.

I also most likely won't get the 8800GTS, i'll buy a cheaper DX9 card until theres some competition in the DX10 market. So most likely I would get a 7900GT/O, or x1950XT/X.

Could someone varify that these parts will actually work.

i dont see why the parts wouldnt work

nice mobo

I always like to have other people look it over to make sure I didnt overlook something. I was mainly concerned about the PSU not being able to handle the R600 or G80.

And ya, that motherboard is extremely sweet :)

yeah i have looked at just about all of these parts 3-4 times over

getting off topic but i am leaning toward the P5W DH Deluxe over the eVGA NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI but to each is own

IDK about the PSU

dont look at my sig it needs updating

I saw that motherboard, but the 680i has alot more features, it supports Intels upcoming 1333Mhz bus, it has dual LAN ports (total of 2Gb/s), has 3x PCI-E x16 slots, firewire, and is SLI ready.

The PSU I had listed won't work, it only has a 4-pin CPU cable, however the mobo requires an 8-pin. So this is the new PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817153040

The Toughpower 650W will be OK for SLId 8800GTSs. Here's another option: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=2235424&sku=O261-2005 (ZipZoomFly also have it cheaper than newegg, if you don't buy before the rebate expires)

Uhhh, you sure thats right? It came up with a 700W with only 2x +12V rails @ 18A.

And I dont think I would SLI 8800GTS's for a while, but it may happen in the future :)

I barely spent any money on my rig, probably around $500 :)

V-cards

I'd spend the extra money now on a DX10 card. As the 8800GTS is as fast as the X1950XTX it sure won't be a slug. It's also more likely you will hang onto it longer which will save you money.

Thats true, since when Vista and DX10 games are out, I won't have to get rid of it, I could just get another one in SLI.

I'll be thinking about this today and hopefully order my parts soon :)

Get the 8800GTS now, and that way he can add another one for SLI later. ;) He won't have to sell his DX9 card, and then buy two other cards.

Or get a x1900/x1950 now and wait for ati's new Direct X 10 cards to come out and woop up on nvidia's 8'series. ;)
