New Hard Drives Not Being Recognized

Prepare a driver disk from your motherboard CD for the SATA controller. You probably need to have it installed before Windows can install.

Now that you may lead him nowhere(as usual  ) I'll have to step and mention that with Vista you no longer need a driver floppy for the Windows installer to see the sata drives installed on a system. That was the drawback on the older versions.

Crap, I was just trying to install it again and a blue screen came up that said "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer" at the top. That cannot be good!

With the installation options you not only need to see new primary created but can see it formatted as well. Personally I prefer a Linux drive tool that detects as well as more accurately utilizes drive space when going to work with existing partitions as well as creating new ones.

The installers for both XP and Vista have no problems detecting and installing on those. For XP the installer would then format the primary as an automatic process since the older version lacked the format option now seen with Vista. But that's the first step following the creation of the new primary you need to see done there.

That statement is backward and plain wrong execpt the cable position jumper. Sata II Drives have the jumper for changing drive mode to Sata I not the other way around. On a W/D Sata II drive to set it to Sata I speed you put a jumper on the second set of pins from the left. And Sata II drives do have jumpers just like I said above, for the drive speed mode, depending on the model, spread specrum, power management. So that whole statement is (WRONG)

That's funny since the two 500gb sata drives here have no legacy type power connection or jumper seen at all. You'll notice they state SATA not SATA II illustrating the older model drives there. Plus the 150MB/s while SATA II drives see 300MB/s!

The Seagate Barracuda 500 GB drive is a SATA II drive. Molex or no Molex, it still has jumpers.

For the record, the image says under OPT1: OPT1 Enabled. This will cause Second Generation Serial ATA drives to revert to a 150MB/s transfer rate limitation. That would be what most of us call SATA II.

The 'legacy power' part is optional, that is why it is in dotted lines and has that big RED text at the top that says Some drives may not have Legacy power connectors

One more thing. If you want to say someone else is wrong, go ahead I don't care. It's bound to happen, but when you start calling each other names it starts to get a little childish.

First-generation Serial ATA began to ship in mid-2002 with support for data transfer rates of up to 150 MB/s (1.5Gb/s). Although designed to be backwards and forwards compatible with all SATA technologies, in practice this has not proven to be the case. Subsequent versions of the specification, increasing performance to support data transfer rates of 300 MB/s (3Gb/s), have led manufacturers to implement varied and often awkward fixes for compatibility, usually involving motherboard or device jumper settings. This represents a backward step, especially as SATA has led to the first jumperless hard drives. http://www.pctechguide.com/12Interfaces_Serial_ATA.htm

Here's a look at a newer WD 500gb sata model then represented in the diagram for the older type.

OK but what has that got to do with the price of tea? That 'newer' drive as you called it also has jumpers :P

Glad you had a good one since that was simply a model spotted at TigerDirect and not the exact model used here. Are you ready? "it can't be!  " Gee? This one does look a bit different for some reason. hhhmmm...

I dont give a crap if they have molex or Sata power connectors. I have Sata drives with both. I said Sata II drives have jumpers and both of the drives you pictured have jumpers!

This just gets better and better with each Post.

How deep is the grave, btw? ;)

<sips Diet Coke and continues to watch>

Oh really...One on one, SirKenin vs PC the "Google" Eye... with a bit of facts and helping of Stranglehold ( stands in the left corner by Kenin's side ) who is a known expert on these areas of ComputerForum...
It's really intensive, and Sir Kenin's leading ~99999 : 0!

Sorry, I couldn't resist it since the thread problem is already fixed :P
I've always wondered ( well always is this 3-4 months I'm on ) why PC Eye isnt' a mod?
Hehe...I now know why.

Oh come on guys.. That was his best material as seen there. Not even a laugh? A snicker? A Google hack? Nothing? Just crickets?

Sorry, Google eye. I guess you just don't have teh funneh. I would say "don't quit your day job", but seeing as how sitting on your butt, collecting old age security, ripping off the occasional friend and making a fool of yourself in the forum is about all your capable of, I'm not really sure how much lower down the pole you can get.

Your fetish for Google is obvious since that's all you ever mention. Sorry I use other resources while your user name should be the one changed to SirGoogling.

See what you people don't reallize is that you all fell into it! :P I simply waited for all the loud mouths to rush in to let you know that you've all been had "hook, line, and sinker"! :P:P:P:P:P:P:P !!!!!!!

Good gods, it's like...talking to a certain former Vista fanboy member, or BP, or DL. Cripes, PC, almost every Thread you post in, you're proved wrong over and over, yet you act like it's a game and continue to give poor (what could laughingly be called) advice.

You got served, plain and simple. You got served in this Thread, the last Thread, the one before that, etc., etc. Honestly, what gives? Let it go...

And for the record, Screenshots of things that have nothing to do with the question/problem on the table is not a resource... Sorry to burst your bubble...:(

Well ok. I guess we can hand Monkey Spunk one thing.. He does use a lot of resources. It's horribly unfortunate that his brain isn't one of them.

We've been "had"? lmao. You even mouth off a mod, who has proven repeatedly that he knows his stuff, especially hard drives, proudly showcasing your "evidence"... and got pwned ONCE AGAIN... your "evidence" proved you wrong.. And we've been had? For what? Wasting our time arguing with a fool? Trying to convince a fool that he really is a fool? Every post you make here you get worse and worse as you lose your grip, as more and more people realize you're totally clueless, a total fraud and a hinderance to progress, answers and solutions... A waste of time, effort, energy and money. Google eye, you are the antithesis of the mission statement of this board.

You, sir, are a fool and a loser. As said, almost every single thread you post in it's proven that you don't have the foggiest clue about computers.. The closest you ever get to one is wiping your spunk off the keyboard after your Google image search of the day.

I would rather be "had" *snicker* than a total fool, a complete loser, a laughing stock of the entire forum, who's hopefully going to come to a locked account very soon because evidently you're too stupid to know when to stand down and admit that you're completely, utterly clueless.
