Oil Aquarium w/ Xbox

For some reason I feel like you're describing an oil cooled computer that has the same looks as a watercooled computer. Are you talking about a submerged computer like I am?

Unless that's a pump and radiator on the left, I think we're talking about two different things.

yea, he means a pump is located outside the tank, with a tube goin in the tank that sucks out oil, than cools it, and puts it back in

I thought an oil submersion PC didn't need any extra equipment... just submerge, secure, and good-to-go.

Submersion pc's do need extra cooling, unless the thermal properties of plexiglass and glass have changed from insulators to good conductors and nobody ever told me about it. There is not enough surface area on the tank to effective dissipate the heat, especially considering how poor glass/plexiglass/acrylic/etc is as far a thermal resistance.

Rad?

could I just put fans in the bottom of the aquarium to sort of churn up the oil?

Fans are not going to increase the surface area of the aquarium or vessel that the oil is in. If you have ever had an aquarium, you would know how small of a heater is needed in order to keep it at correct temperatures. That is because glass is a poor thermal conductor. You need a radiator in order to cope with the heat loads, or not enough thermal energy will be released and you will end up overheating the hardware submersed in the coolant.

Okay, fair enough..

About that all-in-one Xbox H20 cooler... does that come with a rad or do you have to buy one seperately?

I was hoping for an all-in-one kit for watercooling the Xbox... the Koolance thing comes with blocks, but doesn't come with a rad it looks like. Do I just buy a 1x120mm rad for that?

You wont find an all in one kit, the koolance kit is only waterblocks and some cheap tubing.

An all in one block like the xspc is the most cost effective.

You could probably watercool an xbox for relatively cheap, by buying parts from suppliers that have it cheap. For instance, a 10W DDC can be had for $25 off this guy on [h](10W=mcp350, plenty for an xbox):
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1302521&highlight=ddc+10w

You'd probably want something along the lines of a double radiator such as this:
http://www.tilatech.com/products/XSPC-RS240-Dual-Radiator.html
or even a triple like this:
http://www.tilatech.com/products/XSPC-RS360-Triple-Radiator.html

And you'll need a 12v power supply for fans and pump, such as this:
http://jab-tech.com/12v-DC-Power-Supply-with-Single-Molex-Connector-5A-pr-4468.html (use molex->3pin connectors for the fans. 5A is plenty for a pump and 2/3 fans).

And then get some 3/8 tubing like this:
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/tybfomiandda.html

As far as filling, either get a res top for the ddc:
http://www.tilatech.com/products/XSPC-Acrylic-Reservoir-Pump-Top-for-Laing-DDC.html

or get a T-line and run it resless.

Sounds good! I'll start planning this stuff... get some money together... what color coolant you guys want me to get? I'm not gonna use distilled water like my HAF 932 will... I want colored coolant.

Get colored tubing in that case...distilled water is the best coolant.

You could just buy a pro. The new ones don't get rrod (to my knowledge). There at least a completely different mobo and cpu from the originals. Then save the game to the hard drive so you don't need the dvd drive, which is the loudest part of the 360 anyways.

Just take out the HD and DVD and drop that bad boy in an oil immersive set up! done... ;)

That's what I've been trying to tell them, but apparently it won't work?

That Koolance all-in-one is crazy expensive!!! I think you can get those for computers, too.
