Overclock Questions

NB and SB I bumped a tad bit, I got the information from searching teh interrrnetzz fer some smertZ!!!

I got lucky and found a few threads on people with the same set up as mine!!

Ah right, did you have to, i don't want to touch any of the voltages.

TAT loading always seems to make things hotter than you can get with real use. Even orthos usually heats it up a bit more than you would normally get.

Lower temperatures are always better but as long as you don't overvolt too much it should be OK.

Yeah, I haven't touched the voltages at all, so I'm hoping they don't get any warmer... They're Ok though, right?

I had tried without touching them at around 2.6 but was getting some issues when running orthos, I know that even with the same system the same things dont always apply.

I upped them a tad I believe I got set them at 1.5 and 1.4 and ran orthos again and I had no issues so I bumped up the speed again. The computer booted up and everything ran fine but I have yet to run orthos again to find out if 2.83 will hold without heat issues and errors. I am at work now so I cannot mess with it, I just turned my computer off till I get home later today to screw with it!

I wouldnt worry about 55*C is ok. You can push further so that your max load temp is in the low 60ies without any problems, you temps will increase more when you bump the vcore obviously
As for the lapp idea, ive never done it myself so cant comment, but provided you have put on the thermal paste well I dont think you are going to see massive drop in temps. Lapping will stop thermal spots, but as i said...if you pasted well (and by well I mean not too much or too little) then i dont see it being an issue.

Well once I hit 3.18ghz my comp would hardly boot up, it would freeze up in bios or would not load at all. I got some error saying something was over 256 and not supported and it would say failed overclock.

I backed it down and am currently have been running orthos. I did not screw with the VCore, so I am sitting at a steady 2.8 with orthos running just over an hour so far.

This is on teh MSi P6N SLi board not the platinum and not the P6Ne. So if you hear like I have on some other forums that this board wont OC well the proof is in the picture!!!

2.8Ghz with no vcore adjustment, that's pretty good......

Thanks and ran orthos for 3 hours no issues.

Max temp under load

Temp 41c
Core 0 53c
Core 1 53c

No issues to report!!

Yea the computer boots up faster, and programs open up quicker. All in all I am very pleased with the end results!!

At idle my temps are

Temp 28~30c
Core 0 41c
Core 1 41c

I dont know why but I just could not get 3g to stick, I got an OC failure notice from MSI at the bios screen telling me something was over 257 or close to that and it wasnt supported.

Noticeably faster? What about games?

Also, what are you using to read temps, Intel TAT is the most accurate program, give it a go ;)

Definately noticeable imho, which to be honest suprised me! It was like I had gotten rid of some programs running in the background that had been hogging up the resources.

I play WoW and Guild Wars right now, which I only logged onto Guildwars last night. The loading time and how smooth the game play was just suprised me. I didnt think the OC would make that big of a difference but its definately noticeable!!

As for temps, I check the bios, I have the D.O.T. monitor, and Systemfan they all match up for CPU temp. I will give Intel TAT a try when I get home later today and let you know what its reading.

Well new problems arise,

I cannot get it past 2.8 without the computer rebooting.
I cannot keep it at 2.8 because about 15 mins into any game it reboots

Sometimes it reboots sometimes it trys to reboot but screen goes black and nothing happens after that.

I am confused here what am I missing, I have read of people using the same set up I am hitting 3ghz and higher stable.

Well I guess its back to the drawing board!!!
