Question regarding all the spam comming into the forums...

I know all you mods and admins have lives, but i noticed alot more spam comming into the forums. I was wondering if it were possible to have you guys review applicants applications in order to join the forums. This could cut down on the number of spam we get, considering computerforums.com lets everyone in.

Just a suggestion in order to stop most of the spam comming here recently. Or, recruit more trustworthy admins.

I would not mind eliminating spam . I would like to help. However, given the possibilty of spamming under multiple names, it is virtually impossible to stop spam. It is however possible to fight it. That's where I come into play .

Well i cant do anything about the spam (being a kid) but i do think that maybe it is possible to fight it. I dont think that the admins and mods are just watching spam coming in (if they do, hit me online if you can).

Do you think it would be possible to review incomming applications? Just recently theres been more spam comming in. I think limiting the number of new users allowed to join can help stop it.

Applications based on what? CF doesnt do pre-censoring.

there will always be new people with new problems who want solutions fast. therefore reviewing apps will create that extra barrier which is uneccessary.

more as an adj modifying admins (we need more good admins), or more as an adj modifying trustworthy (we need better admins)... pretty big difference

I have to disagree with some of you and agree with others... this forum is virtually spam free.... Everytime we see spam we take care of it within a few hours... You would be hard pressed to find any forum with that kind of record.

Ian, Praetor ...and Tab do an excellent job keeping this forum afloat. We wont be seeing any new admin anytime soon. ..As for mods.. its up to all of you to apply for the position, of course with admins approval..

..There are a few of you out there who have the potential to be mods.. anyway I like the fact that Praetor mentioned "CF doesnt do pre-censoring".

LOL the other forums I used to manage had that kinda track record (>300,000 members) but yeah I can definitely say not a lot of spam here that isnt dealt with pretty quickly. As for this forum, the only reason "spam" has even been noticeable is purely because of the massive growth surge of the forum. CF has grown (membercount/postcount) on a scale that rivles what those 300K-500K member forums grow by. Translation: if it grew more gradually you wouldnt have noticed

lol.. well I missed it cause.. I just got back from the casino and am more than happy to report I won $53,000 (USD)...(holdem no limit, super jackpot with Aces full.. and lost ..loser takes half the jackpot!) only time this will happen..EVER so I will get my bragging in while I can... oh, forgot to preface the post with: OFF TOPIC.


ON TOPIC: I have noticed the growth of this forum and Im am stoked... I have not only learned a lot about computers but also what it takes to maintain a web forum. I still get pissed when I see some spam or illegal chit chat and cant do a **** thing about it cause its not on the software forum.. lol.. but hey, when Im around dont you dare go spamming the software forum! ...

Ah dont stress it too much, i toss enough threads down there ... people seem to post random crap (usually software) in the top section anyways
