Overclocking is over rated. With most overclocks you only get a small increase in performance with less system stability. It also shortens the life of your components. It would take a lot to bottleneck a Q6600 processor running at stock speed. It is a great processor running at the manufacturer's recommended speed.
How is overclocking much different from buying a higher speed processor? Whats the difference between say an E8400, E8500 and E8600? They're the same chip, just binned differently for market. As far as negligible results, I can't agree. The Q6600 is a heck of a workhorse, but my two machines that run Q6600's at 3.6 GHz can't be touched by a stock CPU. Small difference? try an increase of 50%. In some tests, my overclocked sub $200 Q6600 can beat a stock core2 extreme CPU that costs more than 6 times as much! As far as stability, my Q6600 home server running at 3.6 GHz has NEVER crashed, blue screened, suffered from any overclock related stability. If you have instability, you're doing something wrong.
Please don't knock it until you've tried it.
As far as tasking your video, I can relate. Try running Crysis on high at a resolution of 5040 x 1050. It's enough to bring my system to its knees.
