Video card for Oblivion

we tried them on fairly low and it was still having trouble, might of just been a bad make or something..all i know is it sucked...and an X800/6800 is probably the best way to play the game on a budget,i run it fine on my x800XL and its very bareable.

yeah I have the x850xt and 1 gig of 3200 ram...it gets a bit laggy at times but runs fine for me...I would even recomend 512 on top of a gig...but thats for high performance

With my specs, x850pro, 1gig of ram, i can play it on mostly high, some medium settings, no HDR, with decent framerates. However, when there's alot of ppl fighting, my framerate drops significantly, to the 10's.

with 2 gigs and a 7900gtx overclocked its only like 35fps average with high settings and lags a bit when loading...overall i think its mainly due to that bryo engine and how its all coded overall.

To clarify the specifications on the current AGP model card there take a look at http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/gf2mx400/default.asp

board specifications seen in the review at http://www.digital-daily.com/motherboard/asus-p4pe/

I'm going to add at least 256mb ram soon.

k, i'm not laughing. *chuckle* butyou really do need to upgrade quite a few things to play that game. take a look at my specs, and i play it on low, but still only get 20-30fps. that game kicks my computers A**

I would take a serious look at the memory you have installed. OCZ value memory mixed with Corsair xms series? As the expression goes "that's a accident waiting to happen" from running two different memory types if you have those both on the same board. And what make + model board is that? You left that out of your signature.

The ATI Radeon 9550 model will fool you when it is capable of running a good number of the latest games. It's not the "Great OCer" but for an AGP it does seem to hold it's own with the 9600 chip on it. The one that would be a better choice for an updated model would be a card like the Sapphire Radeon X1600 Pro 256mb AGP model seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102666

But the real problem you will see there is the remaining things like a 333mhz fsb on that model board. Onboard sound will probably get pulled on quite a bit there too. ATA 100 drives at 5,200 or 5,400rpm will add to that a little but not much. You don't have a gaming build there at this time. You would most likely see Oblivion and other new games run best at the lower settings.

I have a stick of Samsung ram and a stick of Kingston ram running on my board, and there hasn't been an accident yet :P

Anyways @ RayZa, you might have some trouble with that CPU of yours too. And definetly try to get a gig of ram. What exactly is your budget for the GPU? That would be MUCH more efficient than you coming up with cards and asking us if it's good enough.

Get The X1800xt Or X1900xt And Expect 40-60+ Fps On Oblivion With Max Settings!!! Which Is Hdr + 16xaf And 6xaa W/1280x1024 Resolutions!!!!!!

thats odd... i play it fully maxed out, and have around 60fps outside

Just buy a better processor w/1 high end videocard and 2 gigs of ram to past the 60-75+ fps outside!!

I'd like to see how you get one of the newer PCI-Express 16x cards to run on an older AGP 8x/4x type board. If you read the thread through you would have noticed the request and later post of the system information. The board there is strictly an AGP model. The X1600 Pro model at the link was the newest AGP Radeon model. Eventually AGP will disappear however but not quite yet.
