Watercooling

Is this a good idea for a computer that will be used for LANs and such?

And whats the most reliable kit or parts. That isn't an extravagant price.

Thanks

You can run on air cooling at LANs. I've seen plenty of people do it. If it's in a small room your system will get hot but they should be fine.

The swiftech kits are pretty good, but assembling your own from a bunch of parts is usually cheaper and better.

Well...
This will probably be for my new build.
I have high hopes for it.
High over clocking and stuff...
An 8800...

Is it pretty simple and stuff? Like with hooking it up.
and securing it, and assuring myself it WONT break, and or dissemble while transporting it to a lan and turning it on to gloat and it slaps around shooting water...

Lol.

May I see a nice kit?

And can it be something that its all inside the case, and nothing external.

And should I get a bigger case?

Eh?
Maybe same case, but just the case and a different kit?

To be honest water cooling is a horrible idea for a LAN PC, mainly because it's being moved around alot, being laid on it's side at times and such, and it very, very easy to leak when that happens. I would only use water cooling on a PC that will never leave my desk.

Isn't there a LAN water cooling kit?
Cause a guy had a water cooled pc at are last lan.

Sure he can have it, anyone can have it, you don't need a lan PC to go to a lan party. However, if you're constantly lugging your computer around, don't you think there's a slight chance of a nudge here and there that'll disrupt the water cooling system?

Constant as in always moving it around or like once every few weeks to a month?

Cause Ill be hosting soon, and it will be right down the hall. Then every 4 months my friend hosts them.

So...
And since that would be the only major movement, I can do a check.
After it was transported, I can make sure everything is A-OK.

Is that a good selection?
I am looking at everything under $200.

If needed I can probably stretch to $250, but I dont want to if its not needed.

Thanks

Generally hooking everything up is pretty simple. The hardest part is deciding where/how to mount the rad. When you first set it up in your case test it for at least 24 hours to make sure it wont leak and to bleed the air out of the system.
Do you plan to just cool your CPU with it or other stuff too (like video card, northbridge, etc). If you are just doing CPU you can probably get away with a single 120mm fan rad, otherwise you'll want at a rad that fits 2 120s if not 3.

Also, be sure to look up the pump that is shipped with the kit. IMO, almost all DC pumps are garbage, Eheim makes some good AC pumps that are suitable to be left on 24/7 (they are aquarium/fountain hobby pumps) and never dry run the pump.

Well....
I want to cool the cpu and gpu maybe the ram, only if over clocking the ram would show major changes. Anything else that would get hot.

Thanks

Can you show me a good kit? Or anything in my range on that xoxide is good?

Intel CPU and an 8800 right? I don't know if any of the VGA blocks are compatible with the 8800 so I left it out. I choose the xoxide radiator because it comes with mounting hardware. And since everyone but me likes UV lighting and windows in their case I put the green UV tubing in (sold by the foot so get several and plan everything out before you start cutting it)

http://www.xoxide.com/primoflex-38id-58od-uvgreen.html
http://www.xoxide.com/1sncl3sy.html <- clamps. Use one on every connection
That totals to something in the area of $200. They didn't have any AC pumps but the swiftech ones are still pretty good. You can get a fill port if you like but the ones there are 1/2" so get a 1/2"->3/8 reducer as well so you can connect it to the rest of the system. Also take a trip to home depot and get a t-splitter so you can fill it, they didn't have any that I saw there.

Keep in mind, everything gets hot when you don't have a CPU fan in there. You probably should add a floating fan somewhere around where the CPU fan would be.

Of the kits, I'd probably go with one of these 2:
http://www.xoxide.com/swiftech-h2o-120-premium.html
http://www.xoxide.com/swiftech-h2o-apex-ultra-extreme.html
Any kit should work fine if you see one on there you like, but in high heat situations you do not want a fanless system.

Probably could do better mixing in parts from DangerDen or something.

he gave u the links to individual parts so u could piece it together by ur self, and the links to the kits if u just wanna order the kit instead of each individual piece..

Um....

Why hijack my thread?

That case looks to big for a ds3...

Anyways...

Can that fit my cpu and 8800?

And can I change the tubing...I dont like the color...

I was expecting more of clear tubing or green tinted, with a 5.25 bay water storage with pumps going to locations.
All staying inside the case, nothing external.
I still dont know why you want water cooling when you will be moving the PC around all the time, but whatever...

That would work for your CPU, but highly unlikely it would work for your video card, as it would produce way too much heat. And as far as I know, besides the stock one, they havent made any "good" water blocks for the G80, since you would want one that covers the GPU and all the memory.

Your question is different then mine...

@Omega, It will be moved occasionally. Like every couple months.

Can I find something like the BFG where its like $1000 its an 8800gtx with a water cooled brick already on it.
