hmm... never heard of such a problem. make sure that there are no obstructions stuck in the first slot. Make sure it's clean, and the memory stick is properly in place. If you don't sole the problem...i think that your motherboard is faulty, my ideea is to take it back for waranty.

no there is no way YOU can access that data. but if you have REALY IMPORTANT data on that hdd, take it to a data recovery company for service. This type of service is quite expensive.In order to preserve your data on the hdd do not power it up! Every time you power up your hdd you are damaging...

just install windows on your external hdd, and copy/paste youre important data frome your lap, to the external drive. Why complicating stuff so much with backup software?

well, how it happend does not matter no more... Fist!! do not use that hdd any more take it out of the system, do not try to install anything on it, do not copy any data what so ever! DON'T USE IT! or you risk to never recover your data EVER!. I recomend to take the hdd to a data recovery...
