Need help with choice for great gaming desktop UK

ohh I see! that's great thank you :) why do people need two cards? do they combine together for better graphics? :)

Also my budget has improved by £60! should I go for i7 instead of the i5, or a 256gb ssd instead of the 500gb hdd, or spend £60 more on the graphics card? :)

I got the £75 case, the £60 power supply, the £41 ram, and the £14 samsung disk thing, and a rat 7 £55 mouse, a razer artcosa keyboard and microsoft ergonomic keyboard for non gaming, a steelseries mouse mat £15, windows 7 and I'm ordering the graphics card tonight £160 :) and I bought a computer chair and a desk too :)

and my dad has offered to pay for the £158 monitor! :) :) :)

So just waiting for my other items to sell on eBay :) then I can buy the i5 or i7, the hard drive and I also bought a toolkit for computers and a anti static wriststrap just incase :)

and I just need the £80 motherboard :) but I got loads left to sell on ebay :)

They have two for better performance, yes.

You should spend more on the graphics card. Stick with the i5 and the HDD, get a better graphics card. Go for a 7870 or a 660 Ti.

I worked out that the monitor, the pc, all the bits and bobs cost me £1076 in total - plus the new graphics card! yikes! ;)

Just wondering, say now I wished to swap over to i7 in the future, or update something else, is it simple or a bit difficult? thanks :)

please can you post a link to the 7870 and 660 ti please? just incase I buy the wrong thing lol :) thanks!

A i7 isn't needed at all for gaming. It is only better for HT, which is pretty much only used for rendering video, CAD, etc. Go with a larger HDD. They are usually only $30 more for a 1 or even 2 tb hdd. And with a true gaming machine, you tend to buy a lot of games. Games take up a lot of space. I used to be fine with 60 GB on my laptop, now I have used almost half of my 1 tb. Get a 1 tb, and a 64 GB ssd for windows. Yes, more graphics cards equals better performance (to a certain extent).

Thank you! So I guess i7 is pointless unless I can afford to do so, I think 500GB will do me for a couple of months :) then when I can afford too, I think I can install another hard drive into my computer? does that work? :) I'd like to get a 2tb hdd when I can afford too :)

What would be better, a really expensive graphics card or two medium priced one? thanks! :)

How much are you spending on your hdd?

It depends. And most games don't take good advantage of multiple cards, so usually the single expensive one.

Oh I understand thank you :) I can either spend £260 on a graphics card and £60 max on the hard drive or £180 on the graphics card and £140 on the hard drive :) I'd like to save a bit and buy through eBay if it's a bit cheaper, as I am paying via PayPal for everything :)
 
Which card is the best? the 660 Ti or the 7870? I noticed on borderlands 2 video that the 660 Ti has extra things in the video compared to normal graphics cards, does the 7870 do this too? or something similar? thanks :)

Thank you! He is a legend! :) He's bought a £800 fridge, £3200 Samsung 65 Inch 3D TV and blu ray 3d dvd player and films, and a samsung galaxy tab! (for all of us) :) and now he's helping me get my pc! :) :) :)

To answer your questions:

Usually I put the PSU in first, then plug it in and ground myself on it to prevent myself from damaging any components due to ESD. Then I put the board in, then the CPU, then the RAM, then the cooler, then the HDDs, then the graphics card, then the optical drive. The order doesn't really matter to be honest. Everybody has their own way. So long as it works at the end it's all good.

If you can afford to spend more on the board get this http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...el1155z77chipsetmotherboards/ga-z77x-d3h.html that's an awesome board for the price. Gigabyte's Z77X boards are great!

SSD wise, I have this at the moment http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...nternal/solidstate/upto128gb/ct128m4ssd2.html it's a great drive (price has dropped massively too, was £160 when I bought mine last October, now it's £80 a year or so later!). I'm looking to swap it for one of these though http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...solidstate/128gbandabove/sdssdp-128g-g25.html (Dad and I are doing an SSD swap, currently he has a SanDisk 128GB and I have the Crucial). For the price that is probably what I'd recommend to you.

Everything there is compatible.

Thank you so much! :) I'll do the build the exact same order as you do, I think it's worth upgrading to the motherboard you recommend :) thank you so much for your answer :) that's amazing it's half the price it used to be! wow! why are you and your dad swapping? would you say the SanDisk is a bit better? thanks! :) also is 128gb storage space enough for about 10 games?
