Yes, I see your point very well, and I just say those who know how to build a computer do it. those who don't, and not educated in this area. I'm not saying their uneducated or dumb. Just don't have knowledge on this. It's like their brainwashed into thinking computers cant do game at all. For those of us who build computer, its not for games. Its a hobby.
and i see your point too. myself, i do know about computers. i havent kept up with it in the past few years tho. sure you can build a bad ass computer for fairly cheap (compaired to what ppl pay for inside a console). but a console is cheaper, and its not bad at all, for the money. and i do agree, some people are ignorant. just because its the 'next gen' for consoles doesnt mean it can hold a candle to todays built pc's. but thats why i consider the generations to be totally different. to think of them as the same would be like saying that a generation is every X years, because thats how often your family has kids. for other families, they may only have kids half as much, so for them, a generation is a different time span. (i hope that analogy makes sense to you guys). but also, the marketing says 'next gen', so people who dont know anybetter will believe that. it fails to mention that 'next gen' applies to the console only, not pc's as well. but thats advertising for you.
The only nice thing about a console system is that you can have it in your living room with your couch and sit back and play some games. With a computer (yea, you could put it in your living room, but how many of you actually have that), you usually are sitting in your computer chair with a mouse and a keyboard.
being in the living room isnt the only thing good about it.
you have a controller that works great. comfortable furnature. big tv. surround sound. you can stream stuff to your main stereo and tv...and thats great for parties. soon it will be iptv capable, and will be used as a dvr. and they are adding the messenger to it on the next update. it plays dvds.
sure you can do most of that on the pc too, but its not as convenient. and i can use stuff i already have. i dont have to buy a surround sound just for the pc. or a larger monitor. or a controller (wireless at that)

im not some fanboy. but i like my 360, and for 400 bucks, its a great piece of equiptment. the saying "you get what u pay for" comes to mind. comparing a $400 console to a $1500 plus computer is like compairing an escort to a bmw.
