    you can use wake on lan, assuming that the PC's support it, google for some software that supports it, i've never used it myself, but from what i understand it send a packet of data to a PC that is shutdown, and that then tells it to startup

    all the ones SC7 mentioned, and Final Cut is very good on a mac, it is similar to adobe premiere, but probably slightly easier to use, although not as many advanced features

    i'd say as often as you can afford, if you don't have enouch cashto build a new pc regularly then howabout getting a few old ones of ebay, taking them apart then putting them back together to make a far better old PC, or you could do this with laptops, there are loads of "broken" laptops on ebay...

    512MB or 1GB?

    512 should be enough,but if i was you, and i could afford i woudl go with 1 gig, as this would future proof your laptop moreso than having 512, and save you from having to upgrade in the future. Also with 1 gig it is more likely thatit will be compatible with windows VISTA

    you say you are using IIS, you can stick with that and install PHP, although if you are not using ASP then i would reccomend using apache as your server, as this works better with PHP, and best of all is free! you can get an all in one package (including mysql) from here...
