    Fastest Multimedia PC

http://www.boxxtech.com/ ^they make some nice ones. there's pretty much no way that you're going to find a media center pc for this guy's needs from either of those companies' consumer lines. if he wants to capture the highest quality sound AND video, especially without blips, then he's...

there are freeware progs you can get that you can use to figure out passwords (although some are just key depression recorders, so if she hasnt typed it in in a while you wont be able to find it). check majorgeeks.com

    19" 3:4 or widescreen monitor...which is better?

20" widescreen (16:10) here too. I love mine, and it's very hard to use 4:3 now. gaming isnt an issue, especially since most new games either have WS capabilities or because you can just switch the display mode to widescreen (quake 4, for instance).

    anybody? no?

    Yay extended budget

yep. I'd recommend against the 850xt. the 1800xt is better, but the 7900GT is far better than both and you can grab that for 300 at newegg. also, i wouldnt get the MCE, go pro or home. The advantages of MCE are minimal. if you're still looking for a case, go with coolermaster's centurion...

    3DMARK06 Scores Here

it's a cpu test and doesnt use the gfx card to push the data. at least that's what i figured.

    7800gt vs. 7900gt

i actually noticed this too on mine, but only if it was clocked too fast. i can push it to it's optimal frequencies (485/1130) and get pretty good frames (30-45fps) on CoD2 at max settings and eyecandy. if you push it too far, you lose performance a little. it's weird that you didnt change...

    graphics card getting worse?

it seems my 7800gt is playing tricks on me. I noticed that it wasnt tending to run very smooth sometimes (i posted another topic about this, i had a problem with some videos and games where it would just skip a couple frames every once in a while, similar to lag). I tested it on 3dmark06 and...

    Is a Sound Card Necessary

i wouldnt say a sound card is NECESSARY, although it helps. For instance, high quality sound will make a game run slower if you dont have a dedicated sound card. And of course the obvious, it will sound better also, especially with headphones. If you have good speakers and drivers you can...

ATI Radeon Mobility X300.... is it pretty good for running oblivion??

all the pictures (screenshots) you see of oblivion are at ultra high settings and [usually] high resolutions. Keep in mind that you'll have to lower the gfx quite a bit to get decent framerates and the visuals wont really end up looking that great. I've seen screens of oblivion at low settings...

    Opteron!!

I love my opteron, it runs very well. My system was intended as a workstation and it works great with everything i throw at it. I would stick with the 1xx dual cores, they are much more 'compatible'. dont worry about overclocking, if you have sufficient cooling (make sure not to skimp out on...

    Good Operating system

i use winxp pro and love it. it's quite stable actually, just make sure you have an up-to-date antivirus software (anti spyware progs help too, just make sure you get good ones, as there are fake ones that are spyware in themselves. try lavasoft's ad-aware SE and 'spybot: search and destroy'...

    Video card 'skipping'?

i have, but i dont know what a good temp should be. it's warm, but not overly warm i dont think. the core slowdown threshold is listed as 115C, which is incredibly hot, and I'm running at like 55C (the highest I've seen it at least) right after 3dmark06.

yeah i've checkd there, but i dont think there's an option for removing previous restore points.

Gaming pc for under 1000K...how's this?

well i have to pump my ddr400 RAM down to ddr333 or ddr300 to get it to actually overclock, so i'd like to get RAM that will already have plenty of room to work with (so i technically wont have to lower it). Encore, i've had some great experience with my coolermaster, and if you look closely...

    Hard drives

yep. like someone said, the performance increase isnt huge (my 8mb cache 10,000RPM is slightly faster than my 16mb cache 7200 RPM...the 16mb cache makes a difference though), but it is noticeably better in some respects. I run programs a bit faster on the 10k, but I predominately use it for a...
