    The motherboard manual will usually specify this, where as if you where using one or 2 sticks sometimes you use certain slots, but with three, it may not matter.

    It should work, installing it on a new h/d. As far as slowness you could run disk defragmenter, and check your running proceses. If you need more hd space, i would clean up the 30 gig, and just leave the OS on there, and install a slave drive, and use that for all your data, etc.

    I dont know of any free stuff, you might try searching download.com In my experience, working with PDF's usualy requires adobe acrobat pro.

    Sometimes the m/b may come with software you can control the raid setup with from within windows. Even so, you usually have to enable raid and setup you disk in the bios.

    What do you mean you have to login, are you join to a domain or workgroup? If you have just one user account on the computer,and its not on a domain, it should auto login I believe, unless you have a password.

    Even if you dont get the computer backup and running, none of the files should have been lost. You can take out the hard drive and most likely still boot to it in another computer. Or even hook it up as a secondary, a slave drive to access the data.

    Don't forget a case of course, and maybe a non-stock heatsink. Although just about any should do, as you wont need any major cooling.

    Random Shutdowns

    Could be a faulty PSU or heat. Probably not heat if its been working for a while. You can try testing your psu with a psu tester, or maybe jumping it (google it). If you have another computer around the house,you could try swapping psu's and see what happens.
