    Which Option Would You Choose?

Finally looking to upgrade this fossil of a computer I've got, since the motherboard seems to be failing. Current Specs: Intel Xeon x5650 GeForce GTX 970 32GB RAM So I've got a few options here. A couple barebones ones that come only with a case, CPU, and mobo...

    Open Hardware Monitor / SpeedFan

Been awhile since I've posted anything here... And my computer really hasn't changed one bit. I did upgrade the CPU finally, though just barely. Went from a Xeon w3550 to a x5650. :V Anyways, that's not what this thread is about. I've been using two of the same programs for years, now. Open...

Do I need to replace my hard drive?

I'm wondering if I need to replace my hard drive, or if there is some sort of fix (though I kind of doubt there is). I'm having a few issues right now--the most annoying one is that my computer won't wake up after being put to sleep. Also about every other time I turn it on it does a file check...

    Strange PSU Problems

It's the same model you linked to, but it wasn't from that seller. It is making a noise, but I don't know if the other one was or not. I can't hear it with the case closed, it seemed really loud, but I didn't realize I had the side of the case off. Actually, now that I'm listening to it it is...

    Strange PSU Problems

I didn't think there would be any damage to other parts, because it would still run just fine with the old power supply, with the exception of the burning smell. (Don't worry I never actually ran it like that on purpose, but that's how I found out that 4 capacitors and a toroid had blown. There...

    Strange PSU Problems

The last PSU I had basically exploded, and after some research I discovered that that was the only one that would even work for my computer. It's an AcBel FS8003, so I ordered another one. It just arrived, I got everything all plugged in, but it's causing some strange issues. First off, it's...

    Strange PSU Connector

It's a ThinkStation S20. Not sure why it only just occurred to me to look at the model number for the PSU, but it's an AcBel FS8003. And yeah, my motherboard is really weird... It uses the 10 pin for the CPU, a 4 pin for the GPU, and it also uses a 24 pin.

    Strange PSU Connector

Tried calling Lenovo customer support. No help there. Guy put me on hold for 12 minutes and redirected me to a phone number that isn't available from my location...

    Strange PSU Connector

So recently my power supply basically exploded... Which wouldn't normally be a huge problem, I have a backup power supply. But that one won't work... My mobo has a weird connector that I can't find on any PSUs anywhere. A 10 pin atx power cable in addition to the 24 pin one. I'll attach...

    GPU Grinding Noise

Just looked inside my PSU, it wasn't just a capacitor that blew. It was 4. And a toroid. Don't know what the heck happened there, but I think it's safe to say my power supply is pretty much toast.

    GPU Grinding Noise

Figured out the problem. Found help from someone who suggested it could be coil whine on VRM heatsinks, so I just ignored it. Turns out it was neither CPU or GPU. A capacitor blew somewhere (probably the PSU). There was a popping noise followed by a burning smell. It was ancient anyways though.

    GPU Grinding Noise

My GPU is the GTX 970. It's started making an odd noise when I play games. The game in question is very hard on the video card, but it runs it with no performance or temperature issues. The average temperature when playing is 55-65 Celsius. It only happens while I'm playing a game, so I...

    Very Strange Mouse Issue...

Not that I can think of. It was working a few days ago just fine. Overall it's not a huge issue, since wired mice work just fine. It's just something I found to be a bit odd and couldn't figure out.

    Very Strange Mouse Issue...

I'm having an issue with wireless mice (mouses?) that I can't figure out. It seems like the batteries are dying, but they aren't. The pointer just slows down randomly, and even completely stops at times. I didn't have any new batteries for the old mouse so I plugged in a backup wireless mouse...

    How Good Is This CPU?

Factory cooler, I haven't replaced that. Despite any previous posts I've made on the subject, I'm not overheating as bad as I used to think. The max Tcase temp for the w3550 is 67.9 Celsius, and I was having trouble keeping the temperatures on OpenHardware Monitor below that. OpenHardware...

    How Good Is This CPU?

I do wish I could just get an entirely new computer, but that's much too expensive for me. Even the $100 is a bit much at the moment, but I think I could manage. While incredibly off-topic, the fact that I'm immigrating to a new country soon should explain why I don't have much to spare for...

    About $100.

    How Good Is This CPU?

Yet another question about my cpu (Just about everything I've posted on here is about this same darn processor)... Right now I have the Intel Xeon w3550, and it just isn't able to run a lot of the games I want it to. I know the then Xeons aren't meant for running games, but that's all I've got...

    Open Hardware Monitor Mistake?

I was figuring that it wasn't actually getting that hot. I don't run the program to monitor the system temp though, I use it to watch the CPU. It gets pretty hot at times.

    Open Hardware Monitor Mistake?

I always have Open Hardware Monitor open so I can watch the temperature of my CPU since it's really old and overheats easily. Recently I noticed that every time I put my computer to sleep for awhile, when I get back on the program tells me that the system temperature got up to 96° C. Is it same...
