kubuntu installation on my new compaq

i just tried installing kubuntu on my laptop, but it keeps freezing. after i select install from the menu, a loading screen appears, and eventually freezes. HALP!

just tried ubuntu now. still doesnt load past the loading screen. anyone have any ideas?

Try booting the disk in Graphics Compatibility mode. Just hit F4 at the launch screen and select the graphics compatibility option.

trying that now. i burned the dvd too, so ill try the dvd instead of the cd after if that doesnt work.

It won't matter between the live DVD or CD. If you are booting and ending up with a blank screen, you need to boot with compatibility mode.

that doesnt help. it freezes both ways. in fact, compatibility mode doesnt really do anything,

ummm. i installed it. now it wont boot. its frozen at the loading bar screen.

the loading bar. it has the kubuntu icon, and it says kubuntu. then it has the loading bar, but it only gets like an inch of the way done.

how do i boot in verbose mode lol. i dont get any options at startup.
