You are only seeing one side of it tlarkin. You say that DVDs are getting bigger and better, but you don't think that Blu-Ray will improve as well? And also, you said that the PS4 will be out before the Blu-Ray games can be programmed to its full potential. You really think that developers won't be able to program something after 3-4 years? And for your information, the PS2 lasted 6 years. It came out in 2000 and the PS3 came out in 2006. So I have no idea why you assume that the PS4 will come out in 3-4 years...

i really think the ps3 has so much potential i mean if you look at the change in graphics from when ps2 games first came out to what there like now i think that the ps3 will be like that only better because there is more to utilise
and thats the last i will say coz im board of this discussion i might get a ps3 or i might not but wont get a top of the line pc

with current compression technology a dev could easily fit 25gigs+ on a DVD14 disc. I am not saying blu ray will not be the next big thing, but lets realize a few things here. Beta max and laser discs were suppose to be the next big thing as well, and they both failed. Blu ray has stiff competition with HD DVD, and it is hard to say what will be the next thing.

With the crappy sales and the loss of profit Sony is taking on and the stiff competition they are getting from both the 360 and the Wii, sony may be forced to release a new console to simply compete

also the PS3 would have been out a few years ago if they didn't cram a cell processor and a blu ray drive in it. they had to wait for the price of the technology to drop otherwise the PS3 would be over 1000 dollars to buy a few years ago.

Blu ray sure may be the next thing, but developers won't be using it to its fullest potential anytime soon. you must realize also that most developers make games for other platforms as well that don't have blu ray or cell processors, and they want to sell their games in that market as well.

That's not the point here though. The point is that if good games come out, even if the "extra space" is not needed, the console will sell regardless. And IMO, if more and more PS3 start selling, Blu-Ray will probably have the edge over HD-DVD.

thats fine, my point is that sony already got a lot of exlusives dropped, the dev kit is like 25k if not more for the PS3 dev kit. Devs are mad because of what they did, and they lost a lot of exclusives, and in some of the games out now, it looks better on the 360 than it does on the PS3. Probably due to how MS made their dev kit very easy to use. I am just guessing.

Nintendo's Dev kit is like 1000 dollars, so I think we will see a lot of games coming out for the Wii in 2008.

A lot of exclusives dropped? I've only heard of Devil May Cry 4 and Virtua Fighter 5..

A bit of an exaggeration don't you think. Sony has lost a few exclusives because the devs understand that they will get more money from sales if they go multi-platform. Simple.

Yeah i agree, and I liked my PS2 it ruled. I just think the PS3 is way over hyped so I got a 360 instead, and I am no MS fan boy for sure (I am a nintendo fan boy if anything). MS and Nintendo let devs use the same dev kit since their hardware was not changed that radically and they weren't trying to screw the devs. Where as Sony made all Devs buy a new Dev kit which was priced (let me google it to be exact) between $30,000 and $50,000 (depending on country and a lot of other factors).

Don't get me wrong, I will probably buy a PS3, next year when the price drops and when the second generation comes out. I would be willing to pay around 300 for a PS3.

Personally I think the PS3 has some great potential as a cooking appliance :)

There is no doubt of the graphical capabilities of the Cell chip and the 360's GPU ( Or the developers ability to push the hardware). Look at some of the games already on their way to the platform, COD 4, Killzone 2, Ratchet and Clank.. The two FPS' almost look as good as Crysis, and ratchet and clank almost look as good as a CGI movie. If the Cell processor enables the PS3 to keep up with the PC in 3-4-5 years then it was the right decision to stick in the PS3.
