ATI seems to have better bang for the buck, both have good reps

Actually imho the 6800GS is right now the best bang for your buck. My buddy just bought one, it OC'd straight to 500/1200mhz and he cracked 6000 in 3dmark05 with a mild cpu overclock of a 3200+ and a gig of budget Kingston ram. Not bad for $279CDN, not sure if ATI has that kind of bang for its buck. Could be wrong though but i havent found an example otherwise.

tough. a 6800GT has a lower score in 3DMark, it outperforms a 6800GS.
so, only 3DMaork scores dont say everything.
but yes, it is a nice caRd :)

I heard nvidia is better, but they are more expencive,
I think its because of the sli ready,
um.. now crossfire version from ati is out, I am trying out x850 crossfire.
+ its much cheaper than 7800 sli...

Obviously you dont know much about video cards, what is your reasoning for why Nvidia cards are better?

well, I have posted an argument saying which is better, between ati crossfire, and the sli video cards.
the results concluded that sli has been out longer, and while crossfire has been just realised.
Therefore sli has more experience over double video cards usage.

Your lost arnt you? The thread isnt whether SLI or Crossfire is better, its whether Nvidia or ATI are better. Almost 70-80% of the people on this forum still use single cards and thats why this thread was originally made..to see who prefers what. For example, best bang for the buck, best performance in game, greatest overclocking ability, greatest results in benchmarking software, etc.

no sir, you dont know much about video cards either. all you did was post because you were offended at what he said. You think your 850 is amazing, but havent come to the fact that nVidia makes much better cards, is more reliable, and is also there to release everything ahead of the ballgame

Actually FOOL, Charles Lee learnt everything he knows about video cards from me...we know eachother in real life. BTW who do you think you are saying I think my x850xt is amazing? im returning the shit cause it overheats, im going nvidia, just like when i had my old fx5500. Dont talk shit Coyote when you cant back it up.

P.S Charles lee has a x850xt too

nvidia is more better. They made graphic card for pro that ATI don't do. Just imagine 2 Quadro 4500 on your 16x SLI system.

I have to say it.. Sorry for all those of which I offend but here it goes.

Its soooooooo damn silly to pick one over the other and then say that one is better then the other. They are both great company’s and both have great products.

What’s good this year is not necessarily going to be what's good next.. I'd much rather pick a product because it's the best which means NVIDIA’s 6800GT over ATI's X800 Pro this year. Last time around it would have been ATI 9800Pro or XT model over just about all the NVIDIA FX series but unfortunately in my case I could only afford the 9600Pro at that time :-(..

It all comes down to who has the better product at the time.. I'm all about the best bang for the buck because too many good things are missed out when we blindly follow one company because we like it's name.

Also here's the proof for you all. It's that sort of attitude is why the 9800pro/XT is the around the same price and sometimes more then the much better X800 Pro, it's because people dont research and dont really know what they are buying 9x out of 10.. It's a fact ;-)... It's also a fact that this sort of attitude has many people thinking that the 9800Pro is still ATi's top product even when they know of the exsitance of the X800Pro.

Thank You.

I build computers for people a as a service for people that want custom but dont want to build, and right now im building one with SLi Quadro FX 4500s.

im a computer technician and ill tell u that ati has nothing against the 7800 series 20-24 pipes?!?!?! no chance...the ATI 1800 only has 16 ...not counting memory or speed increases...and this is coming from an ati fan.

Its true, nVidia has the best card out right now, and i've already heard about their future card with 30 something pipelines.

I read a MaximumPC magazine from late 2002, and the top of the line card then was the ATI 9700 128MB for $320!!, imagine what the top if the line will be in 3 years from now?

HOLY SHIT lol that is my old account and i forgot the name of.. damit lol. wow that is weird how i would find it from some1 linking to it. oh and nvidia.

oh and sweet i gota thread stickied ya for me =P

Well, this is one of those debates that will go both ways. I, personally, was an ATI guy. I started with an 8 meg AGP Xpert 98, then 32 Meg Rage Fury Pro, Radeon 8500LE 128, and finally a 9600XT AIW. After I managed to fry the AIW I chose to try something new. I bought an Nvidia 6600 256MB and haven't had any problems with it.

At this point in technology, I don't think you will notice a huge difference either way. Simply put, technology is not where it was four years ago when I was a high schooler and after that all out power. Hardware has finally caught up to software, so you will not notice a huge difference between 2 competing companies anymore.
