Ultimate build.

Doing a custom build with a near unlimited (within $10,500) budget. Will be used for gaming (mostly single, some online), animation and rendering, some work with the GECK, and internets.

But I want this sucker to be the best I've owned. Ever.

What combination of parts would you recommend to build a BEAST with no budget? LOL and when I get it I'll post some pics and info to see if it lives up to the best PC ever title.

This is a pretty serious undertaking. With this budget, you could wind up with any of thousands of combinations of hardware.

With that in mind, I've got some questions:

1- Does it need to be better as a workstation, or as a gaming machine?

2- What is GECK?

3- Do you plan to overclock?

4- Would you want liquid or phase change cooling, or just air?

5- Is noise a factor? (as in how loud the fans are)

6- Are you in the US?

7- Any preference on how it should look?

8- Need monitors? If so, how many? (If you're gaming, a 3-screen setup would be good)

The Garden of Eden Creation Kit (GECK) allows you to edit and create any data for use with Fallout 3. The GECK is used to create game content for Fallout 3. The data is stored in data files that are read by the game. The GECK allows you to create your own areas (towns, dungeons, etc.) and populate them with your own characters, creatures, items, and stories.
Download the Garden of Eden Creation Kit here.
Download the 1.5 Update here.

^ Ah...I knew what that was but I figured he was referring to some kind of specialized program or something...haha.

Looks like it'd be good to build this along the lines of a gaming machine then. I expect corrections, but, assuming TS is in the USA, here's a good start to the hardware. This should (hopefully) save others some searching. All top-of-the-line stuff, AFAIK:

CPU- Core i7 980x (Same CPU, different places...both currently out of stock)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115223

RAM- Corsair Dominator-GT 6B 3x2GB (You can fit two if you want, for 12GB, but I don't see the use...)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145293

Motherboard- EVGA E760 or Asus NF200

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131358

Storage hard drive(s)- WD Caviar Black 2TB (Grab a couple and RAID 1?)(these are plenty fast for an OS as well)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136456

PSU- Silverstone ST1500 (This is a monster...the seven +12V rails combined are actually rated at 2.1KW  )
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256054

DVD Burner- Lite-On iHAS424-98 (24x, lightscribe, retail)

Blu-Ray Burner(if you want it)- LG WH10LS30 (10x BD-R, Lightscribe)

Monitor(s)- Asus VW266H (25.5", 1920 x 1200, 2ms response time) (Three of these in a dual-5970 eyefinity rig would be amazing)

That's not the whole computer...just some parts to get it started. There's also no case, cooling system, or OS hard drive. I don't know enough about SSD's and high end cases/cooling to give solid advice.

If you wanted storage on a SSD speeds are crazy insane but its costs like $3 per gigabyte on average.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139114
256 gb drives here you could get a couple there are 500gb drives but would cost an extra couple hundred more than 2 of these plus with more info they slow down in there times.

If you just want to OS the SSD (which is what i'd do) i would go with one of these and store some games on it to drop the load times.

get 2 of these for video cards!

Ok, some answers:

1. My work is whats paying for this baby, so I want the speeds to be excellent. My current set-up is no lightweight but still get bogged down to a crawl when running the GECK, Lightwave (one of my animation softwares), and anything else. That being said I am and always will be an avid gamer, and the better I can run games the happier I'll be.

2. The GECK is a software used as the main builder for Bethesda to create the elder scrolls series and fallouts etc. I've always wanted to work with them to I'm trying to get as versed as possible in its use because thats a major bonus with them, not to mention it's just fun to use. But it's a memory whore and slows down my machine.

3. absolutely, by as much as possible. Right now I can overclock only 10%. The highest I could get would be nice.

4. Never been familiar with cooling systems, or power supply's- Whatever you guys think will be best I'll definitely take advice on.

5. No, not at all.

6. Yes, Colorado.

7. Black, red neons, preferably a touch screen for temp control.

8. Have two right now, wouldn't mind upgrading to 3 better ones.

Hope that answers your questions. =)

So this is mostly a video/3d editing machine? Could be interesing. I'm pretty sure that most 3D/animation programs don't support GPGPU technology, so more CPU power will definitely help here.

There's two routes you can go here:

One is to grab the new Core i7 980X, the 6-core, and overclock the piss out of it. There have been some problems with quad-crossfiring them as I understand, but I'll let someone else clear that up. This would make for the fastest setup currently available on consumer-grade hardware.

The other would be to build a dual-socket Xeon 55XX workstation, which in terms of performance would be somewhat like running an 8-core i7. I don't think they can run SLI, but you can run Crossfire on them. Two Radeon HD5970's would make it an 8-core, 16-thread, quad-crossfire monster of a workstation, which would be nearly unstoppable in games. They also support massive amounts of ECC RAM, should you want it. The only problem is getting one that will overclock well. This will be faster than the other one, but will be the more expensive option as well.

If you spend 10,500 on a computer--that is a horrible waste of money!

Wait till this fall and that 10,500 computer could be done for half that!

Let's get serious and stop wasting peoples time with ridiculous builds that aren't gonna happen
!

^ I doubt that it will cost more than ~$3.5k, unless he wants to go way overboard on this thing.

First off, spending $10k on a rig is somewhat foolish, as by the time you spend that much it will already be outdated. Spending say ~$3000 and then upgrading over time is a much more cost effective way of doing things. And it would be a complete waste spending that much money on a system not going to be used for benching, a board like the E760/E762 should really only be used in a benching setup IMHO.

Adding up rails is not how you determine wattage of a PSU. That psu is not 2.1kw over the +12v rails, only 1320W. More rails also is generally not better for a higher wattage unit, as power gets trapped on under utilized rails, something like the pcp&c 1200W turbo cool is the way to go for a high end system.

Memory: Dominator GT's cost way too much for what you get, again, for a non benching setup the 1600mhz Gskill PI series is the way to go:

As far as cases, mountain mods is excellent: (Bear in mind, with MM cases 5.25" bay covers, fans, and fan grilles are not included in the costs)
http://www.mountainmods.com/computer-cases-c-21.html?osCsid=lntq0vhnace199n9i6nd9dphg5

As far as SSD's, a single SSD as a boot drive is a nice upgrade:

Hmm. I very much like your second option.. I'll look into it and let you guys know.

I see your 100 and raise you 15%:D

For christ sake I was hoping I wouldn't run into juvenile a-holes here...

First - I said my budget was near unlimited, I never said I was going to spend that much unless it was worth it (which it isn't). I will probably spend around $4,000.

Second - Troll someone else. You don't like my post? Why the hell did you take the time to read it and reply then?

Third - Yes I will abso-****ing-loutely post some pics when I get the pieces (somewhere around a month before I start).

Fourth - **** off
