Just wondering, when will you buy the parts cuz i really want to see some pics of the pc?

Check the reply to your buddy, it applies to you as well.

Heh, welcome to the internets. :p

Here's what I'd suggest, so far:

--I'm having trouble locating a motherboard, and the CPU I think would work best isn't on newegg yet, but this is shaping up to be an awesome build. I'm trying to find a motherboard that can handle-and overclock- two of these:
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=47926

Two of them makes twelve cores, twenty-four threads, and only 60W each, which means they should have some awesome OC potential.

--For the GPU, I'm thinking two Radeon HD5970's in crossfire. The GTX 480 is good too but 1- I don't know if the chipset supports SLI and 2- they use a crap-load of power and have been known to kill the i7 980x in quadfire. You also get eyefinity with the 5970. Two of this one would be fine:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102887

--Bomber was nice enough to point out the right RAM and PSU...that'd be these:
PSU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703020
RAM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231335 (Two of these kits would work fine. Most dual-socket 1366 boards will support either 12 or 18 DIMMs)

--For the case, I was thinking a mountain-mods ascension. (even before bomber mentioned them, haha) Read the review, or at least the last 2 pages, and tell me what you think (They come in black, btw)
http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cases_cooling/mountain_mods_ascension_pc_case/1
Here's the thing to build it with..you get to pick your parts :)- http://www.mountainmods.com/ascension-cyo-choose-your-own-p-483.html
If you get it, make sure to grab the E-ATX motherboard tray.

These add-ons would all be good/useful/fun..all just ideas:
Fan controller- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811992004 (touch screen, like you asked. You may need a second controller though.)
Drawer(s)- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811998076
Card reader- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820223103
Cup holder/lighter/12v socket(lol)- http://www.xoxide.com/xray1.html

--These drives should work well:
OS- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227469 (60GB version of what Bomber posted)
Storage- 2x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136456 (same as before...caviar black 2TB in RAID1)
Blu-Ray/DVD- (same as before)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106335
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136181 (really isn't necessary, but BR is awesome...)

--Monitors again-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236047
I think you'll need one of these adapters, or one like it: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=330-5521

--OS- one of these (I'd suggest ultimate...it's not much more than pro)
Win7 pro- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116717
OEM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116758

Win7 ultimate- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116718
OEM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116762

What this leaves-

Mobo- no idea on this one. I'm sure there's one that will work but I have no idea what it is. This would work well, but I don't know if it can overclock:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182174

Fans- The case doesn't come with any. I'd guess you want red LED fans? Anyone want to chime in here? I'd assume Coolermaster R4's would be ok...?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_re=coolermaster_R4-_-35-103-063-_-Product

CCFL's(internal lights)- Again, no idea which ones are best...help?

Cooling- The CPU's are 60W, which is really low for a CPU like this. It shouldn't take a whole lot to cool them, which means that a couple of good air coolers would work quite well. Water cooling would, obviously, be more effective, but it seems like a WC system like that could be pretty complex. I'm no expert on that though...can someone else chime in?

CPU- I know the right one to use, but I can't find any known-to-me stores that have it. Is Provantage ok?
http://www.provantage.com/intel-bx80614l5640~7ITEP36T.htm

Sound card...? You might want one but I'm clueless. The only ones I've used are for recording...

So far this is looking to be a $5000+ rig, but it's fast enough that you could use virtual machines to run 3-4 dedicated game servers at the same time on one screen, while playing a game at above 1080p on another screen, and rendering a huge clip on the 3rd screen. It's an absolute monster. It hasn't been too long ago that this would nearly be considered a supercomputer.

Thanks for all the input man. LOL I might actually get the cup holder just for lulz. This is gonna be a big build.. I'll look around for the CPU, love the case, but the fans eh, not so much. The leds are nice but I've had trouble with fans from them before..

No problem man...I enjoy this :)

I'm not actually sure what the best fans on the market are right now...I'm no expert when it comes to cooling. I'd heard good things about the R4's though. I imagine Bomberboy or one of the other more professional people geniuses can finish this out better than I can, haha.

dont know if anyone else on this forum has any experiance with the GECK or its little brother so to speak the TES CS (which is used more often), but it does not need alot of computer power to run.
it seems like you just want to waiste money to say you have a expensive computer when in reality my 3 year old packard bell imedia can do what you need.

I dont have any problems with you. It's just that too many people say they want the "ultimate build" and they have "unlimited budget" and they will post pics too. But after sometime they never show up here anymore and they dont post any pics of their pc's. I hope i'm wrong about you but i guess we will see in a month. :)

For christ sake I was hoping I wouldn't run into juvenile a-holes here...

First - I said my budget was near unlimited, I never said I was going to spend that much unless it was worth it (which it isn't). I will probably spend around $4,000.

Second - Troll someone else. You don't like my post? Why the hell did you take the time to read it and reply then?

Third - Yes I will abso-****ing-loutely post some pics when I get the pieces (somewhere around a month before I start).

Fourth - **** off

Check the reply to your buddy, it applies to you as well.

Wow! You need a tissue?

Unlimited budget my ass...

This thread is boring...*YAWN*

I dont want to argue with him. I guess we just have to wait for him to build it and post some pics IF he is really building one.

Fair enough, I would like to see this build too. "IF" it gets built. No point in arguing any more about it with him.:)

For god sakes can this quit already? I said my computer got bogged down when running the geck, lightwave, AND something else (like Norton). And it was mainly the rendering that was slowing it down. Can you either give input to the build or go away? I know alot of people seem to think I'm blowing smoke out my ass, but I'll post pics ASAP when I start, I was hoping this would be more of a optimal hardware combinations discussion instead of a trolling or "YEW R WAZTIN MONEEZ YEW LIAR!!" thread. Come on now.. For those of you that think I'm BSing wait and see, THEN troll if I don't (which I will). Other than that please I just need some input into the cooling system, can this be a bit less juvenile?

Absolutely. Thank you... Hopefully you guys will feel a little less trolly in a month after this is complete. I wanted this to be something everyone could enjoy.. Plus I could really use some help on the cooling system and locating the CPU that he suggested.

Well, the good news is I found a good place to get the CPU's from-
http://www.directron.com/bx80614l5640.html?gsear=1

Directron is an A+ rated BBB member, which usually means you can trust them.

The semi-bad news is that to get an overclockable dual-socket rig, you're going to have to find an EVGA Classified SR-2. It's been launched and is awesome, but It's constantly out of stock. Check it out:
http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=270-WS-W555-A1

Thankfully, that Ascension case has an optional mobo tray that will fit the HTPX form factor. (Mountain Mods is the only company that makes an HTPX case right now...haha)

edit: Hey! It even matches your color scheme! That'll look a lot cooler than the ugly Supermicro board... :)

Laquer Head, I think you should change your age to your mental age, not physical age. All you are doing is boosting your post count and making yourself look like an idiot, which I must admit you don't do alot, but you are right now. Why piss all over someone elses thread, I thought this was a community to HELP people, not laugh and ridicule and accuse them of being liers.

If he wasn't going to make the system, I think he wouldn't have returned after the first post. Why don't you go start a thread in OT called "If you fancy a troll, put it here" and be the first to do it, because there really isn't a place for it here

The SR-2 is a great board and all, but its really not worth the cost. Not to mention, your gonna have a tough time overclocking those cpu's to their potential on that board(anything above ~200blck the chipset gets VERY hot VERY fast).

Also, its HPTX btw.

I would recommend going with a single 980x if you want a monster cpu, that dual socket board is complete overkill and quite expensive for what you get from it.

If you are going to drop $4k on a rendering station for lightwave, why not just build a Xeon or dual Xeon desktop? Then again, unless you are doing professional work you may not take advantage of the hardware. If this is for GECK, that is a modding community set of tools, and GECK itself takes little to no resources to run, however, building stuff for your mods takes time and some computing power.

In all honesty, building a two computers would probably be best, that way one can render and the other one is free to do whatever. I doubt you'll have a render farm set up or any kind of rendering over TCP/IP support (like back burner) or enough work stations to grid it out. So, when you render on that machine it pretty much is useless until it is done. If you had two computers you could set one to render, while the other did something else.

I would also think if you are going to spend $4k, either build a bad ass dual xeon workstation, or instead build two high end consumer PCs, and use one for rendering and one for everything else while the render box is rendering.

^ Two computers might not be a bad idea...maybe stuff it all in one of MM's Duality cases?

Dyslexia FTL...sorry about that

It scales fairly well in terms of how much power you get, doesn't it? ~$1300 for 6-cores and a good mobo, $2600 for twelve...? Seems like a setup like that would hold its own as a workstation for several years to come...

The 980x would definitely still be enough though, you're right.

Would water cooling the chipset keep it cool enough? I think EK supposedly has a block for it...
