Installing second hard drive - newbie advice!

And for the RAM, you need to make sure that the speeds are correct for your motherboard. Google the mobo name and it will tell you. Ideally you want identically spec'd pieces of RAM. Hope that helps, Doug.

Installing second hard drive - newbie advice!

Can you just clarify what you have - 2 DVD drives (both IDE), 2 HDD (one SATA, one IDE)..? Correct? If so, the SATA drive will plug in a SATA slot (obviously), and you will have the two DVD drives and a HDD drive in IDE (in two slots). The SATA HDD shouldn't be in this list. Is it showing...

Do you have to choose HDD connector before puchrase?

Your right, it's SATA or IDE. Mobo's have come with SATA as standard for quite a while now. So it won't work with your current PC. You can still get IDE drives, but most mobo's now only have the one IDE slot. Hope that helps, Doug.

how to connect laptop to embedded computer

Normally when programming machine tools you need to have specific software on the laptop to connect to the machine, even then it just transfers the programme across. Doug.

    Is this good for gaming?

Processor is single core - nowadays quadcore is the norm really, although dual core is definitely still viable. It isn't even the fastest single core (P4 went up to 3.8Ghz). Many modern games require a dual core CPU now. Your mobo may be able to have a dual core. Ram is DDR - DDR2 has been...

    Is this good for gaming?

Short answer.... no! That is all very old technology, as in six to eight years old. I would not expect to pay more than £80 for that. How much is the asking price? Doug.

Way to share speaker between two computers?

Does your speaker set have more than one input? That would probably be the easiest way. If you have the chain system, then won't both computers be outputting sound on to off each other? And the first computer need to be on to hear sound from the second computer? Doug.

5.1 surround to work on TV

So what inputs are available on the back of the sub? If its digital it means all the speakers can come in one cable, if its analogue then only two speakers can be delivered per cable, usually front pair, back pair, centre + sub. How are the speakers connected to the computer? Doug.

What is this ? photo- Part of PC build I'm interested in

Your stereo got digital (optical/coxial) input? Your mobo might have a header for that, which means all you need to buy is the socket, or a much cheaper soundcard (than $200) with the output on it. Also, turning down the volume, bass and treble on the computer, and letting your stereo do all...

Possible Power Supply Problem... Profi Needed

I had a different problem before, but the same cure (unplugging it and then plugging it back in). I found that the battery on the mobo was on its way out. Replaced it and it was all back to normal. I have no idea if that will solve your problem but it's an easy thing to swap around...

    My new Build

So you got the processor, mobo, RAM, harddrive, case, DVD and PSU for £150...? I'm gonna call you on that one , lets have some links! I just checked that store as I am going to be buying some parts soon and it didn't seem that cheap. Welcome to the forum btw. Doug.

    Should I make this trade?

Also, chances are that the seller has used really cheap components for all the bits labelled as new. Doug.

    ASUS mobo P5kPL - AM/PS Issue/problem

I had the exact same problem! I hadn't plugged the right four pin connector into the mobo for the CPU. Personally, I'm blaming the super cheap PSU for fixing the 20 pin and a random 4 pin together instead of the 20 pin and 4 pin mobo one, or you could call it stupidness! That may be the...

    Advice on Buying Desktop plz

Any £750 machine would be able to do that. Any £500 machine would be able to do that. If you have no interest in games then any graphics card will do. This for example, you can get it with a 22" Samsung monitor for £650. Or do you want to buidl your own? Could be cheaper. Doug.

    HelllllP PLZ

Whatever you want, you will still have to buy it. Unless you get a Linux operating system, which are free. Or Windows 7 RC, which is free for a year - but not yet 'finished'. If you download Windows over torrents or something your just gonna run into the same problem.

    Recovering hard drive

If that is meant to say "can't": If you plug the laptop HDD drive in, your computer will still boot from the location specified in BIOS. So it will still boot up your normal operating system from the desktop HDD, and then your laptop HDD will be a drive in 'My Computer', and you'll be able to...

    can't log in

I remember reading about this in another post. I'm pretty sure its quite a common virus. I suggest that you repost in the Security/Virus section. Can you log on in safe mode or anything? If you can follow the sticky in the Security section and post those logs up. Doug.
