Thanks for your answer, I realise that, but how is the chip going to effect me? I am not a gamer, I use the computer for uni work, which consists of CAD and photoshop, hence the quadcore CPU. Thanks, Doug.

    Difference between these two motherboards?

What is the difference between these two Gigabyte motherboards, the GA-MA770-UD3, and, the GA-M720-US3. The specification says that the M720 has a NVIDIA nForce 720D MCP chipset, and the MA770 an AMD 770 / AMD SB700 chipset. What does this actually mean? Also the M720 supports ECC RAM...

    RAM upgrades on older computers

The minimum requirements for Vista Basic are 512MB RAM and a 1Ghz CPU. I personally think that the performance will be no better with Vista than XP. So I don't really see any point in upgrading, unless you just prefer Vista. Doug.

I thought of that as a way to check! It is really obvious though when you think about it.

Is the 'print screen' the secondary function of the button, eg you are pressing 'del'? Maybe you have to hold down 'FN' or something? Hope that helps, Doug.

what does system restore do/not do?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but i thought that system restore does not delete programs and files, just reverts all settings to do with Windows back to the chosen setpoint. Doug.

    facebook and privacy

I think Omega might be right, you definitely used to set it to: No-one, friends or anyone. But I think they might have recently made it so you can create groups of friends. Or I might have imagined that. Create a practice album and see what options it gives you. I guess the blocked people...

    Computer buying/building help

Regarding the first two: ASRock is not a good motherboard manufacturer. And the third: A dual core processor does NOT have twice the power of the equivalent single core, so where it says 2.6+2.6=5.2, they are bending the truth slightly. That said those processors will be OK for your uses, I am...

I am stumped, can anyone help.

Scratch on the XP CD? I think you need to clarify your post as I didn't really understand what you were trying to describe after the quoted part. Did the install keep freezing at 19mins, or at another point, with the other HDD? Doug.

    good fans

Big fans move more air per revolution, therefore can run slower, reducing noise. Not exactly what you asked, but worth a thought. Doug.

unable to detect DVD drive dell e1505

I think sshaggy is probably right, although you should be fine to at least take the cover off the laptop. Just make sure you keep check of where all the screws go, maybe lay them out on a sheet of paper with labels. Make sure it is unplugged and the battery out first, then discharge any...

Will This Motherboard Fit Into My Case?

In your case there will be a rectangular hole. That is a standard size. If you put your motherboard straight up to that there would be lots of gaps, so there is a insert that is specific to the motherboard. This has holes in the right places for each connector. Whole for this insert...

    Looking for a Camera - £200 Budget ($310)

All those shots look pretty good, but for a professional photograph it must be easy to get high quality shots with a cheaper camera. I have taken a couple (one off's) of awesome photo's with my 2MP phone camera. Go to a Jessops or Boots or something and hold the camera's - see the quality etc...

    Connecting computer to TV

Your laptop have a S-Video out?? Its a round yellow socket, about the same size as a mouse or keyboard socket. That is probably the easiest, and cheapest, way. With your current problem, are both your TV and laptop set to PAL or NTSC? Is the TV designed to take in a signal from a computer, or...
