    Building a new computer $700-800

Hey guys, I was looking to build a new gaming computer. The budget I am working with is from $700-800. I have seen some decent deals on cyberpower, but I know most of you could do better and I enjoy actually building the computer myself... So if you guys have some time I would really...

Intel Core i7 920 vs Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550

Well, I am thinking about upgrading probably sometime after Christmas from my current rig you can see in my signature. And what I had a question about was if the new Intel Core i7 920 is better than the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield? They cost about the same, but since the Core i7 is newer...

Why are AMD's so much cheaper?

Yeah, my bro recently bought a Intel Centrino Duo which runs at 1.66ghz and that thing beats the crap of of my Athlon 64 X2 which runs at 2.2ghz. I get about 42sec in superpi at 1M and he gets about 33sec. Now when I have my computer overclocked at about 2.82ghz then it can beat the...

    Just Bought A New Computer

Agreed. I mean I could play Crysis on my integrated Radeon Express 1200, but I had like 7-14 fps on low, basically unplayable. Edit: BTW, On my Sapphire HD 3870 I can play Crysis Very High, 1280x1024 on very playable fps.

    New Comp (small budget)

Well the G.Skill ram has treated me very nicely, but yeah you don't need it. I have used Kingston for several years before this build and it is very trust worthy. So sense it will put you back in the budget I would go with the kingston ram Yeti recommended. As for the power supply, both me and...

    gaming vs. workstation?

Yeah I got my Sapphire HD3870 today and when I first started playing Crysis it blew me away. I guess it was expected going from an integrated video card to a HD3870. Crysis runs at an average of 25fps with everything on high and 1280x1024 with my build.

    Overheating graphics?

Well, yeah integrated GFX usually do tend to get really hot and overheat. My ATi Radeon 1200 starting getting artifacts in DOS, so yeah thats pretty bad. Found a fan laying around put it on and worked like a charm. And ChrisUlrich do your have good ventilation in your case? I haven't heard...

Yeah, I would go with the HD3870 or the 9600gt. For what know both of those are better than the 8800gts..

    New 9600gt

I don't think it's easy for someone else to spend another $50 over their set goal  .

    Possible new comp - remarks?

Hmm I would say to find a different power supply, I don't know if you can trust that one or not. If your planning to spend $150 on a motherboard make sure the PSU is trust worthy. Just just my 2 cents. And I am guessing your planning to SLi it.
