I second that, Putty is absolutely awesome. I'm assuming you meant a client app though and not a server.

internet connection not as fast as I thought

Don't confuse MB/s and Mb/s or KB/s or Kb/s (Bytes and bits). My guess is your download bandwidth is 15 Mb/s which is 1.875MB/s. Plus the throughput is never going to be the max speed. It's also limited by the uploading speed of the host. So the numbers you're looking at seem alright IMHO.

    Custom Data Transmission Project

You might be able to do it with an Arduino, but I'm not certain. That thing has some many uses, I'm sure you could come up with some way.

    WIRELESS Network File Sharing HELP!!

Yes, they'd both be on the same network so there's no reason you shouldn't be able to. Read around on file sharing guides for whatever your particular OSes are.

issue with Ethernet and or modem

I wouldn't jump to the modem being broken yet. Every ISP I've had requires that you use the same MAC address, but the new NIC has a different one. Try cloning the MAC from the old card and laptop and see if that fixes it.

    Switching to Mac

I don't think I'm pushing for a Mac vs PC argument at all. I am well aware of that which is why I haven't (nor anybody else) given any info. I just don't want the OP to be misled.

    Switching to Mac

"Apple wants Psystar to be found guilty of copyright infringement and for violating the DMCA." Taken from this article: http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/10/09/apple-psystar-ask-for-summary-judgemets-looking-to-avoid-trial/ I see nothing wrong with hacking around TPM. This is my personal belief...

    Switching to Mac

EULA's aren't laws. This is a mistake everyone seems to make with all sorts of software. I could generate some software and write in the EULA, "by using this software you hereby give me possession of your house, your car, all your money, and your first born child" and it would hold zero legal...

I'm pretty sure it can be done with AMD however, I'm not sure if we're allowed to talk about it here.

    windows, mac or linux?

Agreed. It's really up to what you're using it for. It's like asking, "What's better? A shovel or a hammer?". If you're digging a hole, pick the right tool.

    making desktop into wireless point

No problem and me either. On Macs it's incredibly simple. I would've assumed Microsoft would've made it easier in their new OS since it's a pretty handy function. Hope it works out for you.

    making desktop into wireless point

It is possible, I set them up occasionally when others around me need wifi. I wrote a nice guide for Vista/win 7 here. It's pretty easy to do. http://thegreatdamorian.com/howtos/wifiap1.html

Very true. EDIT: Also, they've already got motherboards with it on the market: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128410&cm_re=USB_3.0-_-13-128-410-_-Product

    Partitioning software

I've had trouble with EasyBCD. I had grub installed and when I went to partition a drive it decided I didn't need grub anymore :/ but anyway, like they said above. Get an Ubuntu CD and run gparted.

    Operating Systems

He already stated how it works, the question is why. If the operating system connected directly with hardware, what happens when new hardware comes out? The operating system wouldn't have support for it. Also, it's probably pretty awesome that OS programmers don't have to write the code to...
