It's propably a hardware problem,so you should contact the store you bought the laptop from.If it's still warranty-valid they will fix it(or at least try).

Try to get a laptop with at least 512mb or RAM,or if you get less than 512,try to upgrade it soon.A 50-80GB hard disk is enough for your needs.Also it's always good to have a good quality and bright monitor.

Formatting your hard drive is done using a Windows XP cd(if you plan to install Windows XP). Set your BIOS to boot from cd-rom,boot from the Windows cd,follow the instructions and re-install Windows. Make a backup of your important files first. :) Good luck
