some very weird comments floating around in this thread... 3dmark scores dont matter for crap, I got 4200 with my 7800GT, does that mean mine is better than both? no. Also, somehow I get faster framerates on those games than the aformentioned cards. which seems odd. Also, doesnt quake 4...

i've heard the x1900xtx actually performs a little better than the 7900GTX, but if i remember right it is a bit more expensive. IMO it's best to look at the very top of the line and then go a little down from that when you get PC parts. That's the sweet spot for the price/performance ratio...

both the x2 and the 1xx opterons are pretty even on gaming, and are both excellent. I ended up going with the opteron because I use my pc as a workstation and the optys are slightly more stable and are built a little more 'heavy duty' than the x2s. and they can OC very easily. if you aren't...

And what hardware would determine how fast it goes? List your bootup time (from pressing the on button on the PC to being ready to open a program without it running slowly) and the processes it goes through if you'd like. here's mine... 1. Diagnostic/quick system (mem, mobo, cpu) check 2. HD...

here are some for you...the ones with the * are recommended for lower end machines, while the ones with two asterisks require higher end machines. there are really only two good categories for lanning, strategy and first person shooters. strategy/'see your little men and tell them what to do'...

i'd recommend dell. I use one of their ultrasharp displays, and it is very nice. their customer service is great also

i'll agree with you that the opterons are most definitely not overrated (although some people do get lower oc abilities depending on stepping), but I think your numbers are a tad exagerrated ;) As said before, if you're overclocking (which I hope you will with that mobo) I'd go opteron...

i recently installed the newest drivers, so that's not the problem (it ran fine with the new ones too until a couple days ago when it started acting up again). I doubt it's the PCI-E power connector because it still runs ok with some games (bf2 and UT04 still run great), it's just really slow...

same here, although a couple times I hit 2fps. on the second cpu test it was between 0 and 3, while the first one was between zero and 1, with a couple spikes to 2. not a big deal.

i'll agree somewhat with clutch, at least in logical terms. it seems weird for a company to have a standard cpu and just have overclocked versions of it without any change at all. does that mean with a venice core at 2.4Ghz (not sure if there even is one) you could clock to the 'max' of a 1.8...

well if you're not going to buy, you probably should wait until just before you buy...because newer models are coming out.
