    Upgrade recommendations?

I always like to have a little bit extra juice available in my PSU than my system needs. I have a 650W PSU in this computer but I could get away with 500w. I've had my old 400W PSU literally catch on fire, in an old computer which probably only needed ~350W. So my recommendation would be a...

    Buying high quality ethernal cords?

Just as a follow up, I decided to buy a cat 6 from Best Buy. Its a nice sturdy cord but after doing some tests on speedtest its hard to tell if it improved anything. After doing using both my old cable and my new cable twice each I gained roughly 1mbps more with the new cable, but again its hard...

    Buying high quality ethernal cords?

I have been having slight latency issues connecting to a server in the US (I'm from canada), I have great internet but use cheap dollar store network cables. I would usually never buy expensive high quality cables, because well they normally do nothing to improve performance. Would buying...

    5 vs. 10Mbps?

I'm currently using a ISP which gives me 10 mbps download speeds, I've had no issues with speed, but I've had other issues with the company. I have a 60GB download limit, which lately I've been going over every month, and its becoming very pricey. I hate this company, and have always wanted to...

    Help me out, please.

You'll need a motherboard that supports SATA 3 to take advantage of 6.0 GB/S HD's. In fact I don't think normal hard drives can even take advantage of 6.0GB/S, OR EVEN 3.0GB/S. The only reason for 6GB/S is because current Solid State Drives are going above 3.0GB/S. Talking about SSD's, if you...

how to change my ip address

Well, I don't know if my ISP is one of few who do this but... If I turn my computer off, unplug my router + modem, than restart everything I get a new IP address (Sometimes). I'm not sure why, and I'm not sure if it will help get unbanned (Though it did work for me on a game I played years...

Are you using your hard drive from your last computer? If you are, was windows still on it after you put it into your new build?

what else do i need to upgrade on my PC

For starters, if you have the installation disks for windows, install 64 bit version. 32 bit is a thing of the past really, unless you don't have enough ram. By "what else do i need to upgrade" are you implying that your computer was recently upgraded? A lot of the hardware is pretty outdated.

    Upgrading computer $500CAD budget

Your links aren't working for me, and yes 16GB of ram is extreme overkill. The most I'd ever consider getting is 8GB, and even than its overkill. I'm running 2x2GB 1866 corsair dominator, and using a phenom II x6 running at 4.0GHz, and everything loads in a flash, I'd had no issues with...

Buy Extended Warrenty for laptop with only 90 Warrenty?

No extended warranties in general are not worth it. They're a way to scare customers into buying something insanely overpriced which they'll very, very, very rarely need. What the rep told you was true, if there are any hardware issues you'll notice it within the first month, anything passed...

    Ssd

They are certainly well worth it, I bought one about a month ago for my PC and was so impressed by it I went ahead and bought one for my laptop as well. My laptop is silent 100% of the time, no vibrating, no fans, nothing. Boot times with windows are around 20 seconds, and on my laptop running...

My Gaming Build - Does Everything look good?

I think you might want to look for a higher watt PSU, it might run on a 500w, but your computer will be very demanding on it. I think a 650w would be a better option. This is a good PSU...

    Front USB panels not working

The front panel connector probably isn't plugged in. Open up your computer. There should be a plug labeled USB, and depending on your mobo, it should also have a USB labeled insert.

is it cheaper to build your own

Depends on how much you're spending, if you want to spend less than $500-$600 than I'd buy a prebuilt one, you'll get more bang for your buck. The problem with prebuilt ones is some of the parts can be shotty and cheap, but for the price you'll get more performance than building your own. If...

*** stop 0x00000024 not sure what is wrong here?

Yeah that errors generally related to HDD problems. I got a very similar error when trying to install windows XP onto a SSD. If your current HDD is getting old, I think you should consider buying a new one and trying that. If it isn't the problem you'll still have a new shiny HDD:D.

I also recommend that PSU. I just got it and you can't even hear the thing, and still it constantly runs cool.

    Need a wireless Card

I installed a Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter for someone who lives with me, and it gets an excellent signal on the opposite side of my house (which isn't small). My wireless router is located in my bedroom, in the basement at the front of my house. Her computer is located at the back of...

    SSD Question

I'm considering buying a 60gb SSD for windows 7 and world of Warcraft. My first question would be - is that enough space? Let's say my wow folder is 30gb, how much space would windows take up? My second question is can I set up the SSD with windows on it as a secondary drive? So that files by...

I personally wouldn't bother with IE on ubuntu, its bad enough to use with windows, I can't imagine how bad it would be on ubuntu.
