    Post your SuperPi Score!

heck Matt I may have to take the i7 into the 8's on air soon if you keep this up. you are almost at 5 GHz on air!

    Need a CPU/Motherboard/RAM combo for $400!

yall have fun while it lasts. soon I'll have an AMD 955 to play with hehe.

So I decided to build another LGA775 system: E8500

yeah and I'm going to throw some DDR2-1066 in Matt's setup eventually and go for 533x9.5 on air.:D

    Overclock Goals Questions

I generally try one big jump to the desired speed that is "reasonable" and then incrementally go up from there. For instance, the i7-920 is known to be pretty easily clocked to 4.2 GHz on air with a decent cooler, so that's where I start. Upon figuring out what settings are best for this clock...

So I decided to build another LGA775 system: E8500

I think this chip will go 5 GHz on air with some tweaking, especially given the low temps at the current clocks.

So I decided to build another LGA775 system: E8500

So I'm going to build an AMD 955, so I gave Matticus my E8500 stuff. He used it with a TRUE120, Gigabyte board and some G.Skill 2GBHZ RAM and achieved the following:

My buddy Matticus used my E8500, cooled by a TRUE with 72 deg F ambient temp on a gigabyte board with some G.Skill 2GBHZ:

Looking for a new graphics card, any recommendations?

HD4850 is around $120 USD, not sure what it converts to in pounds if budget allows, that seems like a good step up at a decent price. the GTS250 should also do a good job for you.

    AMD or Intel can't decide

I would spend 20 more bucks and buy a 955, but otherwise I would go AMD on this one.

    favorite monitor aspect ratio poll

right now I'm running 1680X1050 on a 22" (and 1280X720 on my 26" TV for movies) but I plan on getting a pair of 23 or 24's to run 1920X1080 on.

After market cpu heatsink for Phenom II X4 940

I run 4.68 GHz on air with my E8400 with a thermalright ultra 120. I'm sure other, similar, heatsinks can remove heat just as well (if not better) than the TRUE, but the point I'm making is that 3.8 to 4 GHz on an E8400 is nowhere near the limit. Are you sure you are putting the thermal...

After market cpu heatsink for Phenom II X4 940

don't you have an E8400? I'd like to see you get better results with water than what I got with my C0-stepping E8400 on air a long time ago. everyone has so much advice, but how many of you actually use these products in your own computers (instead of reading about them on the internet) to...

    cpu for computer graphics

you should be fine with the AMD setup for what you want. Yes, the i7 will be better and faster, but the big difference in price may not be worth it to you.

    Trying for 4GHz?

why the 8.5 multi? you should get better results with a x9 multi. as for the original question: If you have a C0-stepping E8400, start out around 1.40 vcore and run 450x9 (make sure your RAM can handle whatever you have it clocked at. I have DDR2 RAM so I would run the RAM at a X2...

    Intel to discontinue Core i7 920 & 940 CPUs

wow i wonder if i should build one of these next instead of another i7-920. Right now I plan on selling a budget built computer I have for 200 and possibly my pair of HD3870's and E8500/RAM/mobo to buy a D0-stepping i7-920 and pick up some new vid cards that come out later in the summer.

how much does O.C. take off the life of a processor

everyone talks trash about this or that not being safe, but honestly...... who HERE has actually fried a CPU from overclocking (with normal voltages and good heatsinks to keep the temps down) I have yet to fry a CPU from overclocking. I have, however, fried some motherboards and RAM from...

    Intel to discontinue Core i7 920 & 940 CPUs

werd, why would they even come out with i7 only to discontinue it? what limitations does socket 1366 have that the new socket 1156 will be able to shine at? something just doesn't add up.
